James Crown, one of the wealthiest men in Chicago, is aiming to use his national clout in business to try to fight crime in the city. The ambitious goal? To reduce the number of killings in Chicago to fewer than 400 a year within five years.
On Thursday, Crown — whose family was ranked 34th-richest in America by Forbes in 2020, worth an estimated $10.2 billion — is announcing a crime-reduction strategy focused on getting jobs for thousands of people in the most dangerous parts of Chicago, providing millions of dollars for civilian violence-intervention programs, strengthening law enforcement agencies and investing in low-income communities.
He’s a leader of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, which spent six months doing research and conducting interviews with former Mayor Lori Lightfoot, former police Supt. David Brown, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and leaders of dozens of organizations with ties to the criminal justice system.

A plan should result in two parent stable families to bring up their children.
Many ten years ago I was driving through a big city, and pulled into a McDonald’s parking lot. And through the store window a could see a young black guy (an employee) in a heated discussion with an older black guy (who turned out to be the manager).
Once I went into the store I was able to hear their conversation. The black kid was pleading for more hours. He wanted to work! But the manager was telling him over and over again that no more hours were available.
So, yeah. More jobs just might help some city kids. The incorrigible, no. Everyone else, yes. Please see my post #10.
If he can get blacks to stop killing blacks, he should bottle it and become the richest man in America.

Sure, talk to all the people involved in getting the city to such a state of failure. I’m sure they will tell you how to fix it.

Nah, just build a wall around the ghetto, with checkpoints so only those with a work permit or special pass can get out. Inside the wall they can do whatever they want, but there won’t be any businesses, or city services. They can have their own open-air prison with “defunded police” and see how they like it.
He is committing to spending his wealth in efforts to make things better. Trump did the same. Jobs might work for 20% of those involved — it is a start. Perhaps he is hopelessly naive about the population he is dealing with but damn Chicago was a lot better twenty years ago — I thought nothing of walking downtown in the evenings during the 2005 era.
What happens when the “violence interveners” are shot?

Do stop and frisk and put illegal gun carriers in jail. Murders would be down in a week.
THERE ARE NO JOBS for those who have refused to attend school-—cannot read/write/speak decent English—cannot perform a single level of basic daily cleanliness-—cannot be trusted with inventory or money or credit cards in serving the public.
IF ANY OF YOU THINK THESE PERSONS ARE WORTHY OF EMPLOYMENT IN YOUR BUSINESS-—HAVE AT IT——BUT DO NOT BE SURPRISED WHEN PATRONS SUCH AS MYSELF DECLINE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ILLUSIONS YOU ARE OPERATING UNDER.
BTW-—I have been doing accounting & bookkeeping since 1957.
I have seen plenty of different businesses-—
NONE of the over 60 clients I have had as self employed would EVER adhere to such a ‘program’.
NONE of the businesses I worked at as a full time employee would, either.

Yup—leftists and establishment Republican types keep doubling down on policies that fail and fail and fail and fail...and they can’t seem to figure out the obvious reason why.
It seems more likely it would be turned in, intact, to the local police.
