The Second Amendment doesn't mention self-defense.

No, there is no mention of self-defense in the Second Amendment. This is what we get when we stop teaching children how to read.

In context of the time when written, the 2nd makes no mention much less consideration to powder horn or shot pouch capacity. Come to think of it, in writing the 2nd Amendment, the only “magazine” of possible consideration was the one at Concord that Redcoats attempted to seize.
