Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems said Tuesday that they have reached a settlement agreement just moments before opening arguments were set to begin.
The deal ends a monthslong legal battle over whether the media company had defamed the voting machine maker when they broadcast election conspiracy theories in 2020.
The terms of the settlement were not immediately available.
Dominion sued Fox News in 2021, demanding $1.6 billion in damages. They said the network defamed it when it broadcast baseless claims that it was tied to the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, that it paid kickbacks to politicians and that its machines “rigged” the 2020 presidential election by flipping millions of votes for Trump to Biden.
The settlement came on the day trial was scheduled to begin; late Sunday, the court delayed the conclusion of jury selection and opening arguments to Tuesday morning, leading to speculation that settlement talks could be taking place behind closed doors. The announcement follows a bruising week for Fox News. During pretrial conference hearings, Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis sanctioned them for withholding evidence, admonished them for not being straightforward with him, and said he was considering appointing a special master to investigate possible legal misconduct by the attorneys. He said he would allow Dominion to conduct an additional deposition with Rupert Murdoch at Fox’s expense.
Davis also ruled that Fox lawyers could not use newsworthiness as a legal defense, limiting their possible trial strategies.
Few defamation suits make it this far, but legal experts say the case — and the extraordinary claims and evidence fueling it — was unique.
Legal filings made thousands of pages of emails, text messages, and other communications public, revealing that Fox News journalists, hosts, and executives knew the bogus claims about the election were false, even as the network continued to put them on air.

Once again, it is not Fox that is defending against this action - it is the insurance carriers. Just the same as your automobile insurance carrier defending you in a fender bender. The carrier(s) reserves the right to use its discretion in bringing the matter to a conclusion within the coverage limits. You may be right but I always thought the Dominion angle was bogus. Don’t get me wrong, the fix was in, but not because of Dominion.
FOX already made retractions and apologies back in December. They aired segments with Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo and Jeanine Pirro. People screamed about FOX caving back then. Apparently, it was not enough for Dominion. NEWSMAX and One America also aired retractions and apologies, and I guess Dominion let them go. Mike Lindell will lose, Sidney Powell will lose. They screwed up. Making wild and false claims about politicians and governments is one thing. Making them about a corporation is another.
Fox from day one said Trump lost. They tried like hell to promote Biden as the winner. Now a guest might have shown up on Tucker but he just just lets people say their peace. He damn sure never said he thought Trump won. He hates Trump and said so much on leaked texts. Fox would also not invite Giuliani, Mike Lindel, Sidney Powell or anyone else to talk about Dominion. So Fox paid out for something they didn’t do. Now if you want to really sue networks for telling the truth about democrats stealing the election from Trump, (which was true) try selling Newsmax, OAN and some of the other small conservative outlets. They reported it was stolen and Dominion was just one part of the steal. They didn’t sue them because it was true and these small networks don’t have the bucks Fox does. Fox is ran by a bunch of cowards, or they just like to give away money.

Their headquarters are in NYC but they are incorporated in Delaware (like a large number of companies)

So Fox decided to NOT have discovery and TRYING to prove the election was stolen, it would have cost a hell of a lot LESS than 787 million to fight this SCREW FOX, WHAT SCUM THEY ARE!! They also SHUT DOWN the Tucker tapes SHOWING the TRUTH to the American people PROTECTING the FBI, and Antifa SPIT!! That network used to be on my TV 24/7, 365 every damn rerun through the day until Nov 4, 2020!! Dominion has nothing to do with Chavez. Smartmatic is the company with Venezuelan links.
I figured that Fox would take a dive, thereby giving Dominion credibility. That’s what I like about President Trump. He would have fought it out all the way.

If news media could be sued for lies told by guests, there would no longer be any news media.
It was a cash transfer to Dominion to launder and send it back clean. This is going on all over the world. Ukraine got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. The oligarchs weren’t happy, State Department wasn’t happy so something had to be shaken up. Pump a half trillion into Ukraine, clean it, send it back out and everyone takes a cut. At the expense of how many human lives?
