Unexpected.
HAHAHA. I can go back and read 100 posts I made asking these idiot greenheads “and you people think thieves and vandals aren’t just going to rip out all the copper from these things?” I am sure they will all be just fine on the progressive forward thinking clean streets of Portland, Seattle, and San Fransicko.
Copper thrives are not just limited to this. A Safeway Supermarket in Mesa Arizona had the cooper stolen from its refrigeration system. As a result they had to toss out thousands of dollars of food. The thieves probably only got a few bucks.
And copper pipe.
$2000.00 to replace a cable they are stealing for $10 worth of copper. This is the type of waste that runs rampant when you stop throwing the book at criminals.
Who’d a thunk it. How many cables can you put into a tesla?
This was predictable.
Their last words will be, “You’ll never take me alive, Coppers!”
Predicted this long ago. Lots of copper laying on the ground as people start running extension cords out to their cars. Plus all of those Tesla charging stations, most I’ve seen are completely unused.
So the next step will be for EV users to carry cables used to plug into the charging station. Won’t that be fun!
Journalists have NO idea what they are writing about.
“all-time high of $5.035 per ounce in March of 2022”
“a few months later back to a low of $3.13 per ounce”
“peaking at $4.35 an ounce”
That is the price per pound. Dumb A$$ Neil Campbell. Stupid journalist.
Copper is currently worth about $2.50 PER POUND. That is bare bright wire. Just wire, no casings, etc.
Yeah, but think of all the reduced climate emissions from the reduced electrical demands if the EV drivers can’t charge their vehicles. The thieves are just protecting “Gaia”.
>>the 248 horsepower petrol-powered BMW 530i was significantly cheaper to fuel, at only €10.34 per 100 kilometers, based on a €1.88 (US$2.03) per liter (US$7.9 per gallon) fuel
$8 bucks a gallon for gas and the ICE is STILL cheaper to operate.
Just like on RV’s, the charging cable should be on the vehicle, not on the charger. A 120vac/230vac receptacle does not get stolen.
Dumb idea, but hey, the electric car is a dumb idea.
This Enviro-Weenie dumb@ssery just gets BETTER AND BETTER! LOL!
Doesn't happen often, probably due to the penalty. That should happen to catalytic converter thieves, and to thieves in general. You steal, then automatic long prison time. As it is now, most thieves aren't even jailed, and if so then quickly released.
Outlaw EV’s, save the grid, and copper:)
an all-time high of $5.035 per ounce in
= = =
At about 12 pennies per pound, one penny is almost 42 cents.
That is for the older pure copper ones.
I don’t believe that $5 per ounce.
Maybe per pound?
