Why is da Ukraine so determined to hold it?
Despite massive casualties?
If the Russians wanted to capture or take it, they already would have.
The better question is why ZelesnkyyIdiot and Ukraine is fighting so desperately to hold it at horrendous losses to manpower and equipment they can ill afford to be losing?
Now that UAF are about to lose Bakhmut (defended by 30,000 troops), the narrative turns to making it “insignificant”.
Typical Ministry of Truth balderdash.
It appears to me, from what they’ve said, they intend to “demilitarize” and grind down (kill and destroy) Ukrainian forces and they are being fed to them on a conveyor belt in Bakhmut.

see “Popasnaya”.
Is Bakhmut in the Russian annexed area? That might be why. Also it opens the road for them to liberate Slavyansk.
They’re besieging it, allowing the Ukrainians to expend a ridiculous amount of resources (a battalion a day) holding onto it. The question is why is the Zelensky regime so desperate to keep it? Because once it goes they will have no chance at retaking the Donbas.
Also, the Special Military Operation is designed to kil l the Uke military, and denazify. So any place you can get Ukraine to invest in serves the purpose of killing Uke military in large numbers. That’s probably also a reason.
It’s funny reading this thread and seeing 90% of the posts to be almost copy and pastes from Russian propaganda trolls.
It’s funny to me that the self declared high IQ free thinkers have zero original thoughts and just repeat the Russian narrative of the day, which I guarantee will be a different narrative from the one next week.
The Ukrainian defences have this city as a lynchpin of their entire defensive positions. Today the commander of the 93d Bde was wounded and both he and his unit are evacuating from the city.
Update on Russian military operations in Ukraine for December 12, 2022.
- Russia continues its war of attrition - focusing on exhausting and overwhelming critical Ukrainian defenses around Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine/western Russia;
- Despite claims that Russian missile stockpiles are depleted, Russia continues carrying out regular, large-scale missile barrages against Ukrainian infrastructure;
- Latest US assistance package for Ukraine continues the trend of dwindling, inadequate support for Ukraine;
- US government procurement numbers over the course of the next 2-5 years indicates that at no time in the near future will the US be capable of producing let alone supplying Ukraine with the number of weapons and ammunition it requires;
- While Russian production data is not available, the fact that Russia’s stockpiles and military were configured for large-scale protracted and intense combat suggests its military industrial output is likewise configured for such demands;
- The Western media is now admitting that Ukraine can neither win, nor is there any moral imperative to ensure that it does...

I recall when they said evil putin wanted Chernobyl lol
Putin’s forces sense weakness. Ukraine does not seem able to maintain its offense(s) and push Putin’s forces back to the Russian border.
Putin has resources for offense; but Ukraine does not.
“Explainer: Why is Russia Trying So Hard to Capture the Small Ukrainian City of Bakhmut?”
Why is Ukraine willing to lose HUGE NUMBERS of people to keep it?
Why is Ukraine desperately sacrificing thousands of men to hold Bakhmut?
Why did the Ukes so heavily fortify Bakhmut since 2014?
Hmmm. Maybe it is a key position to controlling the remaining western part of Donetsk oblast.
Communist/fascist nations throw deluded, incompetent human waves at positions that are not very important due to communist/fascist pride without good deeds. It’s what they do. The waves of human flesh are chewed up and left to rot. The communist/fascist nation leaves the bodies behind and disowns them, because it doesn’t want to compensate the impoverished, enslaved families of the dead.
Seizing Bakhmut is a secondary objective which the Drive by Media like Moscow Times is not expected to know about or understand. The Objective of the Wagner Group, the principle attacker, is to kill as many UA troops as possible using convict troops.
This is the exchange of low value material (convicts) for high value material (UA troops) - the job of the convicts is to kill as many UA troops as possible, then die, to be replaced by more convicts, thus emptying out Russian prisons, in a cost saving measure.
