AUSTIN, Texas – Beto O'Rourke, who is facing off against Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in November's election, said that the rightward shift of Latino voters in recent years is partly due to a disregard for the demographic by Democrats.
"Candidate Biden didn't spend a dime or day in the Rio Grande Valley or really anywhere in Texas, for that matter, once we got down in the homestretch of the general election," O'Rourke told a crowd at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin on Saturday. "You got to be locking eyeballs with the people that you want to fight for and serve and whose votes that you want to win."

I’m sure things would be great if Beto had won in 2020.
The fact he’s running in a state with such a massive Hispanic population means he can’t get away with “Latinx,” that’s a term Hispanics generally detest.
Ergo, it’s more something you’d hear from a leftist in a state with almost no Hispanics, like Bernie Sanders in Vermont.
They think they can bribe the Latinos to vote Democrat by giving them “free” stuff.

Is he talking about candidate Joe Biden during the 2020 election? If so I know what happened. Texas was going to go for Trump by a comfortable margin so Biden and Democrats decided not to spend any time in Texas.
Beto also forgets that Biden didn’t do many campaign appearances at all that year. He mostly campaigned from his basement.

Agreed, but “locking eyeballs” is such an unusual metaphor. Perhaps he should stick to flapping his arms like a maniac and dropping F-bombs in front of children. These strategies have been very effective in his prior races
