BREAKING: California to BAN Sales of Gas-Powered Vehicles

Just days after Democrats passed a sweeping law that mandates "green energy" policies and spends a whopping $370 billion on wind, solar and "carbon sequestration" in an effort to "slow climate change," America's largest state is about to up the ante with a unprecedented move.

California on Thursday is expected to put into effect its sweeping plan to prohibit the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035, a stunning move to force a national mandate for electric vehicles.

The move comes despite critics warning that the state's power grid could not even power 10% of its cars being electric, let alone 100%.

And just months ago, California utilities operators had to beg residents to avoid charging electric cars amid power grid strain during a heat wave.

Liberals however, are ecstatic over the move:

“This is huge,” said Margo Oge, an electric vehicles expert who headed the Environmental Protection Agency’s transportation emissions program under Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. “California will now be the only government in the world that mandates zero-emission vehicles. It is unique.”

NYTimes has more:

The rule, issued by the California Air Resources Board, will require that 100 percent of all new cars sold in the state by 2035 be free of the fossil fuel emissions chiefly responsible for warming the planet, up from 12 percent today. It sets interim targets requiring that 35 percent of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 produce zero emissions. That would climb to 68 percent by 2030.

The restrictions are important because not only is California the largest auto market in the United States, but more than a dozen other states typically follow California’s lead when setting their own auto emissions standards.

Nothing short of a plague that kills only Democrats will change the direction of Kalifornistan. No matter how bad the Democrat government’s policies make life the Democrat voters never change their vote.

We need electric powered floor doors for the gallows on which to hang the leadership doing this.

As it is, this policy doesn't really cause any pain to the rich people who are the loudest proponents of this wacky idea. They can afford expensive electric cars, and have the ability to have chargers installed in their homes. This really impacts the lower and middle classes, who don't have the same resources.

I'd like to see California ban fossil-fuel burning airplanes. Don't think that would go over too well with the Hollywood crowd.

Massachusetts also has banned internal combustion engines by 2035. The province of Quebec as well.

“Can I buy a gasoline powered vehicle in Nevada and import it into the state? Or will they prohibit me from registering it?”

Will either matter after gas stations in CA are banned? You know that will be next.

They passed this awhile ago.... its what these POS reps do, they pass legislation that takes effect years later, and its probably got a bunch of exemptions for cops, fire fighters, military, post office, amazon,......
Its inconceivable to ban gas cars... but... I guess it makes my old jalopie worth more.
Oh and Im in before the Fing Freeper who always says “Well they voted for it.” Well, we got FJbiden too cause “Well we voted for it.”

They have to know this will not work and that the Power grid can’t handle it. Where are the 100’s of Billions needed to upgrade the Grid and Power Generating Capacity? They all need a Physics lesson here, and there will also be the pollution of the used batteries to deal with.

Ukes are powered by a diesel generator which supplies electricity to the motors on each wheel.

They are not electric only vehicles. But none of them are truly zero emissions except those charged by water driven turbine generators.

We need to build a wall around California to keep people in. This will only increase the exodus of fruits and nuts. Economics matters. Basics like the electric grid and power generation matter. California will have more power failures. People want to be cool in summer and warm in winter. It is a matter of life and death. Even wacko leftists need these basics. The uneducated and poor need these basics. They need to be contained in California and solve their own damn problems. We don’t need more people leaving California and ruining the rest of America. Sorry conservatives in CA, you have to stay and fight this one out.

I would not be too worried about it, I’m about absolutely sure the state will not exist in its current form by then. Iit will self implode, so bigger fish to fry when that happens, than worrying about enforcing an idiotic scheme.
