KHIMKI, Russia -- American basketball star Brittney Griner testified Wednesday at her drug trial in Russia that a language interpreter provided during her questioning translated only a fraction of what was said and officials instructed her to sign documents without providing an explanation.
Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport in February. She acknowledged in court earlier this month that she had vape canisters containing cannabis oil when she arrived in Russia but contends she had no criminal intent and the canisters ended up in her luggage inadvertently.
During her testimony, the Phoenix Mercury standout described making a grueling 13-hour flight to Moscow from Arizona while recovering from COVID-19. Griner said she still does not know how the cannabis oil for which she had a doctor's recommendation ended up in her bag but explained she had packed in haste while under great stress.
SHE (HE) has played in Russia during the USA off-season.
She has been in/out of Russia many times.

You have no rights; rights there are given not implied. As for kissing the ground of the USA, I hope she kissed the sidewalks in SF when she returns after ten years or so in a Russian prison.

Guess it takes being subjected to the judicial system in another country to recognize how good (or at least it used to be good) the US judicial system is.
foreign countries like Russia or China are just itching to arrest Americans so why would anybody take any chances.....stupidity....but it tells me that good ol Brittany has done this many times before and thought nothing of it until she got caught.

Brittney Griner’s excuses read like she is a fifth grader instead of an adult. They doesn’t pass the smell test for me. Brittney Griner has traveled to Russia numerous times, she knew their rules and apparently chose to disobey them.
Brittney is black, a lesbian, and hater of all things American, except $$$$. Maybe LeBron James will travel to Russia and drop a few million $$$$ to free her.

Keep digging Griner .... there is a theoretical 10 year sentence limit for your crime, but insulting the court could get you some bonus years.
Watched a documentary about Black Dolphin prison. Not sure if there is a worse prison anywhere else in Russia and most other countries as well. Must stand at attention during the day in cells, no talking, and if you need to be moved somewhere then you are head down bent over doubled with your arms cuffed and jacked up behind you by the guards on the off chance that if ever did find a way out of your cell you wouldn’t know the layout of the prison. And then there is the issue that black dolphin is where the worst of the worst criminals are sent...
I do believe you are right on target, she just tried it one too many times and her luck ran out. From what I been reading, China is even stricter when it comes to illegal drugs.
That’s bad, but I believe Lubyanka is even worse.
I know that the Turkish prison in Sinope town in the prison provenance of Sinope is a medieval torturer’s wet dream, replete with Iron Maidens, lead ear cups, thumb screws, racks etc, all put to ‘good’ use. 7 years there is a death sentence.
