Armed Feds Pay a Visit: Amish Farmer Faces Hundreds of Thousands in Fines
IJR ^ | 5/21/22 | Jack Gist

Amos Miller, an Amish farmer who runs a holistically managed small farm in Bird-In-Hand, Pennsylvania, grows and prepares food in tune with nature, the way he believes God intended. This seems like a sound idea to the approximately 4,000 customers who purchase Miller’s meat, eggs and dairy products from his private, members-only food club.

The federal government, however, appears to disagree. A federal judge recently ordered Miller to cease and desist all meat sales, Our Organic Wellness reported. U.S. marshals were deployed to search Miller’s property. They inventoried his stock to assure he doesn’t sell or slaughter more animals. In other words, the feds shut Amos Miller down.

Miller claims he is being persecuted by the federal government for practicing his religious freedom to grow and prepare food according to his religious beliefs.

If he only sold within his local Amish community, which is generally exempt from many things on religious grounds, there would be no problem.

When you sell to the public, however, there be rules.

Free range chickens....not confined to a coop or pen.

“Miller claims he is being persecuted by the federal government for practicing his religious freedom to grow and prepare food according to his religious beliefs.”

That’s not why he’s being persecuted. The Feds know the Amish voted for Trump overwhelmingly. He’s easy pickin’s and the farm is their excuse. He’s the example they’re using to intimidate all of them. (IMHO)

Another view on the freedom to sell good food here . I took a big steer over to an Amish friend to butcher for me . I don’t do blood and guts . I get queasy . He killed , cut-up ,and packed the meat , 675 pounds of it . We gave our kids some and we all started eating it . But something was wrong . It did not taste right and our stomachs seemed to not like it either . I went over to investigate and see if I could figure out why this 675 pounds of meat was not good . While talking to him in his basement where he cuts the meat up another guy pulls in with another beast to be butchered and my Amish butcher friend goes outside to get the cow unloaded and in a waiting stall . I decide to snoop around and check out the facilities . Upon opening the side door to his gas powered band saw I saw the problem . The tray at the bottom of blade where all the cuttings fall off the saw blade was built up to an astounding height and had shrooms , mold , and other disgusting growths of rotten deer , pig , cattle , chicken , turkey and probably many other beasts over the winter butchering season and the saw blade was running through that fetid mess of bacteria . I sold all the rest of the meat on Craigslist for dog meat at $2 a pound and thankfully made back my investment and a bit more but I did then find me an “ English” butcher to cut up my meat in the future . I can understand why the authorities want to inspect a butcher facility . I used my feet to solve the problem .

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy stuff from an Amish guy who obviously isn’t following the same practices as government approved slaughterhouses. He isn’t pretending to follow the same rules and I suspect his customers probably trust him more than they trust industrially raised beef they might buy at the store.

There is no reason for the feds to be involved in this other than to flex their muscles against conservatives.

Cage-free or free-range eggs are neither. Farmers can use these terms as technicalities to market to consumers. These best eggs are pasture raised. They are allowed outside to graze bugs, grubs, seeds, etc…

But that isn’t pasture raised eggs...lol. Free range chickens don’t lay eggs in a pasture.

Exactly. They vote conservative; they will pay. Garland and Wray will see to that.

People are responsible for their choices when buying food. I would choose to walk by certain booths at farmers markets, etc. If someone chooses to buy from this guy, let them.

This harassment situation opens a whole new can of worms, and all small home businesses will be targets. And God help the vendor who wears a Trump shirt or MAGA hat!

I fear this is only the beginning. Another way they will interfere with a safe food supply. In Florida we have hundreds and hundreds of small business farms that provide a substantial amount of food to the citizens in the state of Florida meat produce everything so I guess it’s only a matter of time until before they start targeting all of those and then there will be no options other than to take their manufactured BS food or grow own- difficult for those of us with HOA.

This weekend a new group was begun called the 1776 Restoration Movement. Check them on Facebook.

It’s an outgrowth of the People’s Convoy. Amos Miller is exactly the reason we are doing this. To restore our God-given rights and to restore America back to our founding principles as a Republic.

OK, how’s this

Farmers like Amos and various butchers are the reason there is a federal law. Although honest in their business dealings, they lacked awareness of product safety

All of them.
When I see or hear a discussion about nuclear proliferation and the possibility of some rouge nation nuking DC, I sometimes stop and consider both sides of that action.

Well it's not from him, as he sells to members only the article states. The first paragraph, 2nd sentence posted. 🙂

This seems like a sound idea to the approximately 4,000 customers who purchase Miller’s meat, eggs and dairy products from his private, members-only food club.

Our local Amish butcher shop is spotless.

I enjoy visiting the shop to see all the ingenuity as he has no electricity. All his grinders and slicers are run on pneumatic motors..

Even the compressor for the cooler and freezer,, the blower motors for the smoke houses,, everything.

The ceiling fans make a quiet pssst sound as they too run on air pressure.

The ceiling lights are propane.

There are also a few propane refrigerators.

We handle the tax work for about 600 horse & buggy Amish and Mennonite farms. (It was humorous last week as a state tax auditor visited one of them. We were polite, and offered him a table to work at in the buggy shed. He quickly ran out of battery on his laptop and left.. 😁)

Would perhaps have been prudent to check out facilities before hiring butcher,
BTW; how does one know the conditions in a chain market?

"Chickens don’t lay eggs in a pasture."

Yes they do - our next-door neighbors have chickens which come into our pasture and lay their eggs. Don't know if any chicks hatch (never see the hens sitting on them) but we find the eggs ¾ all over.
