Ukrainians have shared pictures of a burning Russian fighter jet they say was shot out of the sky in the Kharkiv region as Putin's forces continue to take heavy damages.

Photos from the scene remains of Russian fighting aircraft Su-35 believed to have been hit by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

It is understood the plane was shot down by the anti-aircraft missile troops of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who shared footage of the incident online.

The Su-35, a hi-tech fighter jet worth an estimated £30million, was reduced to rubble. It is understood the plane was shot down in the Kharkiv region of the country.

Deputy Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko confirmed the Su-35 was shot down by Ukrainian forces, reportedly writing: '50 million dollars worth of damage for the ogres!'

Gerashchenko reported that the pilot ejected and tried to escape, but was subsequently detained.

“Ukes at it again with POW humiliation photos like Iranians, ISIS, the North Vietnamese, Saddam and other messed up places do.”

I kind of remember the US doing much the same thing.

Just 11 more of these and it’ll be the cost of Supreme Leader’s super yacht or a Russian Never Land.

If I remember right, the Su 35 is a top line 4th gen fighter and has been sold for export.

Maybe this guy was dumb or unlucky, but if I was India I would be wondering about the money I paid for the fighters.

Ukraine had lost 590 aircraft by that moment for reference. You shouldn’t expect DM mentioning it though.

“Is that really a Russian flight suit that one wear in a super-sonic fighter airplaine>”

Yes, he’s wearing the cold weather jacket.

The camo is their new EMR pattern that was developed in 2008.

That photo is not intended to humiliate anyone. It is probably a great relief to the pilot's family to see him alive and not just see his passport and dead body.

That’s because that isn’t ‘the’ Russian pilot. So, this fighter was “shot out of the sky”? Odd. How many jet aircraft get shot out of the sky and the wings and right stabilizer remain in factory position? As Joe says: “C’mon man!”

I agree that the Russian armed forces are overrated but I can’t help think that if they were fighting on their own soil their fervor would be vastly different. Ukraine has been part of the Russian Empire since the 1600’s to 1990 and many Russians have Ukrainian friends and relatives.

No wonder the Russians are losing. Ukraine started with about 200 airplanes in their air force. But somehow according to you the Russians have shot down or destroyed 590 of them.

And the Ukrainians are still flying around in some of those - 390 air craft. Time for you to concede defeat, you can't fight against a negative airplane.

China needs to understand that. Even their vaunted J-20 would have its ass handed to it by a new F-16.

American pilots get 3 to 4 times the hours in the air and a vastly greater amount of combat training than Russian or Chinese pilots. It would be like beating up a little kid.

How many fighter jets end up in the middle of a farm field in pieces and on fire? Is that a standard way that Russians land their aircraft?

Saw an interesting YouTube video re: Ukrainian success in shooting down Russian aircraft. Russian war doctrine calls for using “dumb” instead of “smart” bombs since they are cheaper. This necessitates Russian aircraft to fly lower to hit their target which puts them in range of MANPADS. And given the influx of MANPADS from multiple nations instead of fixed SAM sites whose locations are known the Russians are being held to a standstill while losing hundreds of aircraft. Zelensky doesn’t need fighter jets, a no fly zone etc., just more MANPADS.

Some pilot is on the hook for about a billion rubles (plus or minus).

Pilot might not see any pay for a few years (plus or minus).

It certainly looks like a Sukhoi. But it looks like it was parked when hit, not shot down.

You both make excellent points. That’s why I’m leaning towards Insurance scam.

Of those, about 380 are UAVs. For fixed-wing jets, your number of 200 flyable before the war sounds about right. I don’t think a lot are flying now, at first week about a dozen were shot down every day, now none to three max.

Fluttered down like a leaf. The video shows it. It wasn’t a nosedive like most.

Hah, that's great and in keeping with the philosophy in eastern Europe. But lets hope not, it is probably insured with Allstate and their rates are high enough already.

Also, the rich, soft earth of that “farm field” has barely been displaced by the wreckage. You don’t find that unusual for a high speed breakup? I guess the laws of physics have been altered in the Ukraine.
