Lithuania will no longer import Russian gas to meet its domestic needs, becoming the first country in Europe to have secured its independence from Russian supplies, the country's energy ministry said on Saturday.
All natural gas for Lithuanian domestic consumption will be imported via the liquified natural gas (LNG) import terminal in the port of Klaipeda, the ministry said in a statement.
"From this month on - no more Russian gas in Lithuania," Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda tweeted on Saturday, saying the country is breaking "energy ties with the aggressor".

I heard that the LNG producers are actually PAYING the customers like Lithuania to take the shipments off their hands.
I would love a video of these LNG rah-rah boys confronted with two competing gas stations - one with gasoline a dime cheaper than the other.
There'd be a line at the cheaper gas station. And they'd be in it.

Yes - I heard that one of the big problems with LNG versus piped natgas is that with piped, you can sign a contract for a fixed price.
Not so with LNG.
Try filling your propane tank or heating oil tank in the middle of the winter and see what that sets you back...
Strategic imperatives often trump (ha ha) pure economics. This WAS Trumps point on a great many matters.
The guys on The Duran were being a little grim with worry about all the NATO-supplied anti-tank ordinance floating around Europe now, with absolutely NO way to keep tabs on it all [those guys are Europeans, so they worry about stuff like that. They worry about the small arms, too].
I just realized that these LNG tankers are going to be nosing into constricted northern European waterways pretty much on a regular schedule.
I wouldn't want to be living anywhere near one of the supply waterways...

Hours after Lithuania’s announcement, Latvia and Estonia joined them.
Latvia has a big unground reserve storage system.
None of them ever trusted Russian supply.

The Baltics have moved very quickly. A month ago 100% of their energy exports were from Russia. Now it is 0%. Being small coastal countries makes it easier.
UK and a few others that didn’t have much need for Russian fuel have done the same. I expect several more countries will follow in the next months as they secure alternative supplies.
Germany has the hardest task, it will be some years before they can wean themselves from Russian oil and gas.
