KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — In a dramatic escalation of East-West tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian nuclear deterrent forces put on high alert Sunday in response to what he called “aggressive statements” by leading NATO powers. The order means Putin has ordered Russia’s nuclear weapons prepared for increased readiness to launch, raising the threat that the tensions could boil over into a nuclear war. In giving it, the Russian leader also cited hard-hitting financial sanctions imposed by the West against Russia, including Putin himself.

With his invasion of the Ukraine Putin “pulled defeat from the jaws of victory”. He is now bogged down in the Ukraine, he armor out of gas and his trooped out of food. Ukraine has managed to rally western Europe to its’ cause. Putin lost and he’s wounded. A very dangerous situation. So the question is, go for the kill or find a face saving way out. To bad we have an unelected idiot as CiC.

The midwest/east would be unlivable just from the ground bursts at the ICBM silos in ND/Montana and elsewhere. Look at the fallout maps from just a purely military strike on the US. Very little would remain viable.

Don't worry about that. NASA tested that scenario way back pre-1970's over the corn crops in Ohio. We now grow the best sweet corn around. It was from a report I saw while doing a decommissioning for NASA.
It’s stunning, really. Kharkiv, Ukraine is a million and half people. 15 miles from the border. Almost entirely native speaking Russians. Yet They have no interest in being “denazified.” If they don’t then the folks Putin is currently holding hostage in his fairy tale Republics don’t either.
Putin will lose everything he’s stolen in Ukraine now. His fairy tale Donetsk republic and eventually Crimea, too. If the million ethnic Russians 15 miles from the border don’t want any part of Putin’s Russia neither do the Crimeans.
