Is this the end of CNN's left-wing bias? Billionaire Trump donor, who is the largest shareholder of the network's new owner Discovery, wants to restore it to impartiality - and INSISTED on Jeff Zucker's departure after his affair was exposed

CNN's left-wing bias may become a thing of the past when it is spun off to Discovery later this year, with the largest shareholder of the network's new owners eager to restore it to impartiality.

John Malone, a billionaire Trump donor, is the CEO of Liberty Media, Discovery's largest shareholder. He retains a 25 percent voting share in Discovery, which will take control of WarnerMedia and its assets - including CNN - later this year.

With Jeff Zucker gone, that seems more likely than ever.

It's unclear which political direction Discovery CEO David Zaslav wants to take the network in. On Friday morning, he shocked CNBC hosts by calling the network 'the leader of news to the left'.

Mediaite interpreted his remark as a reference to the political left however he has since clarified that he was talking about the 'left' side of the company portfolio, with sports being on the 'right'.

On CNBC, he refused to talk about the scandal, but said: 'Jeff is a good friend of mine. I can't speak to this issue. We don't own the company yet. In terms of CNN+ we couldn't be more excited about the fact that they've been hiring great journalists.'

I remember them and John Roberts, John Holliman, Lynne Russell, Miles O’Brien, Bobbie Bautista, Jeanne Moos, and “Style” with Elsa Klensch. They had many good anchors and reporters. Even Wolf Blitzer came across as middle of the road back then.

That would be like turning a sewage plant into an ice cream parlor.

They think they own the place, so no. Look at the deep staters that had to be escorted out of government office when Trump came in, or the VA school boards defying the VA governor on masks and stuff.

Yes. It’s not just the top anchors. The entire staff is radical lefties. When put in power they always get rid of anyone who disagrees with their sick evil agenda.

This is promising, but I won’t hold my breath waiting for CNN to become even reasonably impartial - when it happens, I will believe it.

I remember CNN in the early 90s watching the war in the gulf. Back then they were all about their international correspondents, etc. I believe Bernard Shaw was their man at the time. They weren’t half bad.

Watching those early night vision videos late a night. It was fun as a 20 year old.

They also had Don Farmer and Chris Curle, a husband and wife news team in the morning

They were also anchors on WSB-TV news in Atlanta after CNN. Unfortunately, Don Farmer passed away in Florida last year. Their son (Justin) is continuing the family legacy as a current news anchor for WSB-TV.

Yep. Very proud of their "corporate culture" and screaming bloody murder now that their comfortable little haven has been breached. Here's the bottom line: Discovery is buying CNN and is looking at the pathetic ratings and would like it to turn a profit. The major shareholder feels this can best be accomplished by turning CNN back into a reputable news organization. Cuomo gave the matter a push for his own 18 million reasons by suggesting that Zucker's long-known relationship imperiled the sale. Whether that's true or only an excuse, CNN wasn't going to improve its profitability with Zucker at the helm. What's causing the screaming is the suspicion that the new boss thinks it isn't going to turn a profit with the others on the staff onboard either. Which is probably true.

I doubt he’s even trying to restore impartiality. He only wants it to look that way.

Malone ain’t screwing around. Plus, Discovery has to pay for the deal and cutting big salary propagandists is a logical step toward doing that. Going back to straight news means they can hire newsreader talent for a small fraction of what they’re paying to leftist anchors now, and they can get rid of ALL the “experts” and panel members.

What would really be sweet is if the new CNN adopted the “fair and balanced” tagline just to piss Murdock off.

Hi.

Please pardon this post.

Dean, J school
Columbia University
New York, NY

Since the 19th century, journalism strived to do two things: Report the news accurately and editorial comment, oped kept separately.

If you currently look at your alumni, you will see you have monumentally failed in your duty. Plus, many can’t string two sentences together.

You should eliminate your J school and take up African gender studies.

I wonder if Jen Psaki, or any of the other administration sock puppets, will harangue CNN for biased reporting the way they do FoxNews?

Yep. Started out as a decent news source.

When Obama seized power, the network’s journey into full blown leftism that began in earnest during Dubya’s second term became complete.

Right now CNN is effluent.

> “No wonder ratings were down 90% since January 2021.”

Ratings don’t matter, seriously.

Black Rock and Vanguard call the shots and they can print all the Monopoly money they want.

Be informed:
MONOPOLY - Who owns the world? Documentary by Tim Gielen
https://youtu.be/JSECFCuqJOI

Be aware: If Marxists lose too much credibility with their propaganda then:
1. Brutal crackdown on dissent, or
2. Fake right-wing “controlled opposition” put in place.

We should think the Discovery-CNN interplay is the installation of “controlled opposition”. Don’t be duped.

Look for clues:
“UK Daily Mail”
So-and-so is a mega-galactic zillionaire “Trump Donor”
etc.

Now some may think this Discovery-CNN news may be good. That’s what they want us to think.
