Furious drivers stranded on I-95 in Virginia for more than 20 hours without gas, food and water are demanding that Governor Ralph Northam speed up rescue efforts as they resort to calling DoorDash in a dire effort to get food.
'We have to find a way to get national guard here. Diabetics and babies down here. People are going die here,' a friend told NBC's Jim Scarborough, who tweeted the quote in a plea to get people rescued faster as the 50-mile stretch of highway south of the nation’s capital was still closed Tuesday morning after six tractor-trailers jackknifed the day before.
Jim DeFede, who has been stuck on the interstate just south of Quantico for the past 24 hours, called I-95 'a complete parking lot' and was growing angry as his woes weren't answered and emergency personnel were not coming to his rescue.
'I don't know who's in charge but somebody better do something because there are cars and families just trapped here this entire time and nobody seems to be coming.
'I haven't seen a state trooper in at least 12 hours. I haven't seen a tow truck in at least 14 hours,' DeFede said in a video posted to Twitter.
Meanwhile, it appeared as though Northam was hoping the sun would help melt the snow and clear traffic. 'Sunlight is expected to help @VaDOT clear the road,' he said on Twitter.
But DeFede said that as of this morning, the road was still covered in ice.(snip)
Virginia State Senator Tim Kaine (snip) revealed that he is one of the people stuck in the snowy pile-up in a tweet early Tuesday that read: 'I started my normal 2 hour drive to DC at 1pm yesterday. 19 hours later, I’m still not near the Capitol.'

That frigging lying POS.....
Weren't there exits in that 53 mile stretch?
Never thought of a stereo stove.....I have a little Japanese grill that works with stereo cups. Good idea for heat if stuck and running out of gas.
I also have an extra blanket to hang on clothes rack which seals off back end of the SUV. Decreasing are to heat is also good.
'Nuff said.

Before doing that you had to hit the parking lot and pull some doughnuts, though, right? Right?
“Yep; but this is still usually true when the weather is 70° and sunny.”
We really live out in the boonies. Our closest Kroger style of store is 40 minutes away.
One reason we never do stuff that can cause bodily harm if the other person is not around.
My wife will not ride her horses unless I am there
Yes...in Pa they do close down highways and turnpike. Anytime they start closing roads you know you need to leave work early and stay home otherwise.
"If I can just get my Bolt home; I can charge it fully..."
That’s because they know the people don’t know how to drive in snow.
In Florida the rare times they’ve had snow there are car accidents everywhere!
I recall a heavy snow while at work. When it got seriously deep I asked the manager if I could leave early....she said no. I apologized and left anyway. Good thing I did as the roads were so bad they closed them down.
I think most car radios are battery powered.
—” How long does that take before the EV can drive off on its own?”
With regenerative braking, the pad/rotors are only used at very low speed and in a panic stop.
When stopping the motor/generator is cranked as hard as you push the brakes, the reclaims some of the energy used in accelerating the car.
With a healthy tow and your foot hard on the brakes...
More than a few videos, not much to see; truck pulls EV.
Snow does not intimidate me in the least. I’ve driven in some pretty dense lake effect white out conditions. You just have to know how to handle them.
Ice, I will NOT mess with ever. I have a very healthy respect for ice.
I’ve a generator in the barn that can supply essential house needs.
What I do NOT have is enough gasoline in storage to run it for very long.
I really should get a propane carburetor for it, as I’ve got a REALLY big tank of that stuff in the yard!
ROFL!! When they talk about everybody driving electric cars, I have to laugh, because in my mind, all I can think about is the fuel shortages, and rationing during Carter’s term of office, and how people had to wait in line for hours to get gas, and how fights broke out because tempers flared. I believe that will all be repeated, and it will be even worse in crime-ridden America, if gasoline-fueled vehicles are banned in the future. They’re never going to have enough charging stations to accommodate everyone, so can you imagine waiting in line in your electric car so you can charge it, and flash mobs, armed with weapons decide they’re going to prey on the people sitting in line. With what goes on in this country today...it’s not very hard to imagine.
What a miserable experience.
I knew a NYS trooper who said once that he lost 3 years of his life for every winter he spent on I-81, because it was so stressful.
It was miserable. There's nothing worse than a woman with some extra cash in her pocket, being stuck in Lancaster, Pa., and none of the outlet stores open 🤣
Well where I worked there was just two roads and both had very steep hills which in bad storms you could see cars sliding backward down those hills it can get that bad. So I was always aware of the snow warnings regarding work.
I will never drive on ice.
Yeah, those little cans of Sterno are an excellent source of heat for melting snow to get drinking water, provide a little bit of heat, and heat some food. They are small, lightweight, easy to carry in the car, and last forever.
