Kim Potter, the former Brooklyn Center, Minn., police officer who fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright earlier this year after shouting “Taser!,” on Thursday was found guilty on first-degree and second-degree charges of manslaughter.
Officers pulled Wright over in April after noticing that he had been driving with an expired tag and that his rearview mirror had an air freshener illegally hanging from it. Officers tried to arrest him after learning that there was a warrant out for his arrest regarding a misdemeanor weapons violation.

No. But then if I decided to fight with the police I wouldn’t be surprised.
Nope but I’d never let myself get into that kind of situation.
“Minnesota cop is held without bail and faces up to 25 years in prison ....She will now consider from the state regarding their so-called Blakely issues – aggravating factors that they say speak to a need for a higher sentence than someone with Potter’s lack of criminal record might otherwise receive on the charges....
The maximum for first-degree manslaughter is 15 years; for second-degree, it’s 10 years. But Minnesota judges follow sentencing guidelines that normally call for less - just over seven years for first-degree, and four years for second-degree.
Prosecutors have said they will seek a longer sentence due to aggravating factors, which is what they did in former Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin’s murder trial for killing George Floyd.”
Daily Mail, which often gets things wrong but....
Wow...commie judge said no bail.....right before Christmas for somneone who has never committed a crime and always made court appearences and has a 100k bail in effect.
Well she's a convicted felon now, not an accused one. And the judge said she would entertain motions to allow Potter to remain on bail pending appeal but that hearing won't take place until after the holidays. So she could be out again soon.
Nope. Inevitable.
Ever notice that law-abiding citizens have an extremely tiny percentage of risk in being shot by police, either intentionally or accidentally?
Daunte Wright would have been dead sooner or later anyway but probably after he killed a few people.
Justice on Daunte Wright was served. Justice for Kim Potter was not. It was an accident, pure and simple.
Her lawyer said the blame lay with Wright who was struggling with the cops.
Isn't part of her job knowing which is her pistol and which is her Taser?
Such a silly, uneducated, loaded question.
What are the sentencing options for 1st and 2nd degree manslaughter in Minnesota? This seems like a situation where she is indeed guilty of killing the criminal, albeit through panic and incompetence rather than intent. Sentence ought to be mild due to mitigating circumstances (eliminating Daunte Wright prevented an endless chain of victims).

As just plain old “citizens”, we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. Meaning, if we prosecute cops for stupid mistakes (like Kim Potters) that kill somebody we run the risk of having no cops.
If we just let the cops run wild, they WILL.
‘Or to be judged by someone somehow who thinks that cops aren’t human too, and can’t/shouldn’t make mistakes.’
erring is human, however, a human with a deadly weapon within easy reach needs to err less...
and anyone who is stopped by humans with weapons should sit quietly, staring straight ahead and waiting for things to play out...
two errors, resulting in a death that never should have been...
Done because she committed manslaughter.
Her actions may have been accidental but she clearly committed manslaughter.
DUI driver kills someone they do it accidentally, it’s still manslaughter.
So they should get the benefit of the doubt.
No, they shouldn't.
She killed someone.. accidentally or not.. legally she committed manslaughter folks.
Being a cop does not grant you blanket immunity for your actions.. what sort of nonsense is that?
You run over someone by accident you aren’t free from criminal liability because it was accidental.
Kim Potter Convicted for Accidentally Shooting Daunte Wright While Michael Byrd Was Never Even Charged for Intentionally Killing Ashli Babbitt.
How do you prejudge that in an applicant? How do you prejudge that in anyone?
How many Vietnam vets do you know who emptied their magazines in their first fire fight then thought their rifle had jammed only to be saved by their squad leader who came to their rescue and pointed out their ignorance and gave them a fresh magazine?
It's great being a judge and jury from your computer in your den isn't it?
