Juan Williams: Trump's coup attempt should bar him from 2024 race (Major Barf Alert!!)
The Hill ^ | 8/16/21 | Juan Williams

Posted on 08/17/2021 9:41:08 AM PDT by Michael.SF.

But Attorney General Merrick Garland might be able to stop him.

Garland has the power to rule out another Trump run by citing “section 3 of the 14th amendment, which bars anyone from holding office who ‘engaged in insurrection,’ against the U.S.,” Robert Reich, the former Labor secretary, recently wrote in The Guardian.

If Garland takes Reich’s advice, he is sure to set off alarms about the attorney general playing politics.

But Garland has the facts on his side.

The facts say Trump tried to stage a coup.

Yeah like that's never, ever happened before. </sarcasm>

“engaged in insurrection”

One would think this would have to be adjudicated first but who knows in this world of made up laws.

Hey Juan, The one-time I strongly disagreed with Trump was when he DIDN’T call in the military and stage a coup!!

The cited section is Civil War stuff. It was meant to apply to anyone who took an oath to defend the Constitution, and then fought for the South.

That someone would even consider using it against Trump is damn dangerous. And that’s because it could then be used against anyone the government doesn’t like.

Mr. police officer, you took an oath, and later defended Trump online. That’s insurrectionist behavior.

Ms. army sergeant, you took an oath, and later joined the NRA. That’s insurrectionist behavior.

Etc.

The coup was stealing the election.

The Left ALWAYS accuses their opponents of doing what they're ACTUALLY doing.

I would not be surprised to see that argument made if audit results are positive for Trump.

2024? It’s only 7 months later, and I’m wishing he had, had a coup.

“Garland has the power to rule out another Trump run by citing “section 3 of the 14th amendment...”

No, an appointed un-elected government employee does not have veto power over who runs for president. The Constitution gives Congress the authority to sort it all out. However, Williams is a despicable liar to say that Trump attempted a coup.

Shouldn’t there be a trial first? Or have ideas like innocent until proven guilty gone out the window in the Fascist States of America?

I guess Juanita didn’t get the memo. The coup was AGAINST Trump; not by him.

What a maroon!

This is yet another reason why the audits matter. They wont get Trump reinstated but they will display that in fact DJT was right all along....and once again folks like Williams here will have to eat crap sandwiches, like theyve done over and over and over.

We know 81 million voted for Trump at minimum.

It would be comical if he was in jail and voted back in as President then of course pardoned himself and all those being wrongly held in the DC dungeons.

Well, what is wrong with Congress passing a bill of attainder against Trump, preventing him from holding federal office? Sure, there is a Constitutional Amendment specifically against it, but as President Biden says, no Amendment is absolute. /off sarc

Another toxic form of quasi-secession by Trump’s supporters is evident in GOP-controlled state legislatures taking power away from local election officials.

Some things in the Constitution may not be clear however the conduct of elections in the individual states is beyond clear. The state legislatures are solely responsible for the conduct of elections.
