We had a Derecho come through the western part of WV. It doesn’t blow houses down but it tales the siding of of them and roofing off the roof. It made for a scary looking sky. Most unusual for WV. We are used to floods.
Derecho. A new frightening name for a common wind and rain storm.

My dad, raised back in the 1930s, said when such a storm hit and knocked down the corn, they would release the hogs and cows into the fields to eat the fallen stalks and ears.
“Derecho Storm”: Wind, rain and thunder with a press agent.
I’m nervous as a long-tailed cat on a porch full of rockers, today! We DO NOT need this! Everything in my garden is at peak - OF COURSE! Grrrr!
Luckily, my local WeatherGeeks have YET to get a forecast correct this entire growing season, so I remain hopeful that it will miss us! We NEED rain, but not this shiite!
Just texted Beau awhile ago, asking him to be on the road by Noon today, or to stay over another night. He does NOT need to be driving his monster-sized truck, with MY dogs in the dog box on back and a trailer with MY ATV behind him in hurricane force winds as he heads home from Up Nort’ today!
You’re right. It IS always something! Grrrr!
If the Kitchen Garden gets hit at least we’ll have potatoes! They can take pretty much a direct hit from a tornado - they’ll be already dug for me and probably washed. I’ll just have to pretend it’s an Easter Egg Hunt! :)
I’m in the ‘Possible’ SW RED corner of the state; my Mom, Sister and just about everyone else I know in this state is in that PURPLE zone. :(
Batten down the hatches, Kids!
Yeah, do you really figure that folks would like eating #2 Yellow Corn?
Take care and good luck.
Iowa is the #1 producer of corn and Illinois is #2.
Southern Wisconsin does grow some of the best popcorn, but most of the area at risk is field corn, good for cattle feed.

Beau grew up rural and dirt-poor on a farm. They ate field corn all the time. He teases about arm wrestling their sow for the last ear, LOL! He marvels that I had actual Sweet Corn to eat as a child.
Today’s generation WILL starve when the grocery shelves are empty. :(
Worried here too.
House sits high on a hillside facing west.
Kind of expect to be replacing shingles tomorrow.
Thanks for Pimping Wisconsin! We DO grow awesome Popcorn. One I highly recommend that can be grown at home if you have the room is ‘Puffy Pop.’ Makes HUGE ‘cornpops.’
If anyone wants to order The Best Popcorn Ever, try Rural Route 1, not to far from where I live. Good Stuff!

I’ll pray for you and you pray for me, and we’ll get through this just fine. :)
They used to call them severe thunderstorms.
My wife and I were visiting friends northwest of Syracuse the night that storm went through...the lightning was I-N-S-A-N-E! Never seen anything like it before or since. Nothing.
Yes there is!
the new green deal!
just ask AOC about it.
***Iowa is the #1 producer of corn and Illinois is #2. ***
And Forty five years ago the PROGRESSIVE FARMER magazine said that Alabama and Mississippi would soon be the main producers of corn due to THE COMING ICE AGE!
About ten years ago the same magazine jumped on the Glo-Bull Warming bandwagon. Wonder how corn will grow in the Yukon?
Iowa had one last year and Virginia got hit with one about 10 year ago. They are pretty damaging and have a very distinct radar return.
