Walz declares emergency, brings in police backup from Ohio and Nebraska as Chauvin verdict looms

Gov. Tim Walz has declared a state of emergency in the seven-county Twin Cities Metro and is bringing in police backup from Ohio and Nebraska as a verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial nears.

"We can’t live like this. We simply can’t. But we can’t have thousands of businesses burned and people put at risk," Walz said at a Monday evening news conference when asked about the security strategy.

Walz and the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul said they would not order curfews for the entire week as the verdict looms. Curfews are likely on the city level on a day-by-day basis, not preemptively, a spokesman for the governor later said.

Walz is also asking the state Legislature to free up millions of dollars in emergency security funding.

Monday afternoon, the Minnesota Senate quickly passed $9 million in emergency funding to deal with unrest in the Twin Cities, with Republicans saying it was needed to keep the peace.

As I reported here last evening, Walz announced that State Troopers from Ohio were being brought in to supplement Minnesota State Troopers, National Guard and local PDs.

Now, He's also getting some Cornhusker help.

Maybe Canada can spare some Mounties.

The funding bill sailed through the Republican majority Senate. The DFL led House is dragging its feet because they're afraid that funding all of this additional law enforcement might squelch someone's 1st amendment rights. More like their right to burn, loot and murder.

I’m sure this is all in preparation for the thousands of white supremacists who are going to descend upon Minneapolis if Chauvin is convicted.

Ironically, stating they need money to keep the peace. The violence is always about power and money.

Well placed snipers like the rooftop Koreans would do the trick.

And who are the idiot politicians in these other states who decided it was a good idea to put their police at risk?

JUST. LET. THE TWIN CITIES. BURN.

They did it to themselves. They wanted to defund the police and tolerate Antifa. Their citizens voted in progressive politicians. They deserve what they get.

Who’d want to be the poor saps who drew the short straws for that duty?

At this point.

These folks need a hard lesson on not causing damage and not getting violent. But I don’t make policy. After last summer we’re way past a point where people will tolerate seeing another burning city summer.

But who am I to say that the woke leftists will listen.

Translation: MPD will walk. No cops will stand for the sacrifice of another cop. Twin cities will be copless....will have to bring in someone to maintain the mayhem as BLM moves into the suburbs....

“We can’t live like this. We simply can’t.”

LOL...elections have consequences and electing Democrats have the biggest consequences of all. Obamao lit all the fires that ruined race relations and set them back 50 years. Things were quieting down a lot under President Trump until COVID was unleashed. Then Xiden had poured millions of gallons of gasoline on the racial fires.

If you don’t want to live like this, get black male Americans to quit killing each other and children, obey authority, and don’t run from the police. Then get serious about controlling the marxist antifa and BLM, reject “defunding” police, and get your politician buddies to quit inciting riots and tampering with juries.

The formula to stopping “living like this” is quite simple and not hard to implement.

More troopers... what are they going to do with the rioting.. you know they will... are they going to try to hold a line? only? are they going to take them in? are they going to send them home? or are they going to let the crowd run over them?

it’s a sad state of being to have people riot if they don’t like the outcome.. it’s a sad state to lose control on the streets too.

when china ran over a man who dared stand out in front and thinking they wouldn’t run him over... but they did.

if you got a call from your adult son or daughter asking you to bail them out of jail. get me out of here.. would you pay a thousand dollars to get them out that night? or would you tell them ... you are an adult .. you got yourself in this and you can get yourself out...

i’d like to know.... i’m sure you’d think he or she was put in jail over a mistake... always a mistake..

I”ve done nothing tonight but lecture and be angry.. i’m done being that... I appreciate this FR and the people and the Robinsons...I love this country.. there never was one better and never will be...
good night all.

I wouldn’t blame the MPD if there was an outbreak of Blue Flu.

Red states might want to keep their police and NG at home. IF this case is a hung jury or not guilty, we’re going to have problems everywhere.

We can’t live like this. We simply can’t. But we can’t have thousands of businesses burned and people put at risk,

Can't live like what? Am I reading this right? Is Walz a poor speaker, or is he implying there are two choices? I am making the assumption that "can't live like this" implies sympathy with the protesters/rioters, and on the other hand, the "but" implies, ever so reluctantly you can't have businesses burning.

I will never forgive the State of Minnesota for stopping the Trump rally which basically forced him to give a speech to an empty airport during the campaign. May they get everything they deserve.
