The sight of supporters of President Trump storming the US Capitol have sparked horror and outrage across the sports world, but hit especially hard for a West Point graduate watching from home.
Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski launched into an extended tirade about the riot at the Capitol.
Alternating between saddened, perplexed and outraged, he discussed Wednesday’s events, the COVID-19 pandemic and current political situation:
The sorriest day — I’m 73 years old — outside of 9/11, shootings at schools where kids have gotten shot and killed. And by the way, I know everyone went under desks and that at the Capitol. I’d like to ask how many times have teachers had to do that at school when there’s gun violence?
It was an insurrection. It went to the very fabric of this great country; the symbol for our democracy is that Capitol, and we allowed that symbol to be really just spit on and stepped on.
My prayers go out to the officer’s family who was killed from the Capitol police, just like my prayers go out to the 16,000 families that have lost loved ones in this last week. Are you kidding me? There’s 16,000. What the hell are we doing? Where we can’t work as a country to come together and get these vaccines out, makes sure that we’re coming together. And if someone’s doing something bad, Congress has the responsibility of stepping forward.
Krzyzewski urged for the country to move past partisanship:
Everyone who was involved, they should be prosecuted. And our leaders, our politicians who spoke up in support of that, should be chastised. This is not about being a Republican or a Democrat, it’s about being a damn American. Our country needs to be a team again.

And by damn American, he means Leftist.
This rant just didn't come out of nowhere.
He's been against Trump and conservatives since day 1.
Spare me the FAKE outrage.
Id expect nothing less from anyone associated with Duke.
What a fkg dufus. He is about as useful as tits on a bull.
This old West Point grad has one thing to say to Coach K (another old West Point grad): f*%# off.
Used to follow Duke and Army bball. No more.
Who? Some glorified overpaid jock?
Hey, coach - you fkg a-hole ... If that “riot” were a true “insurrection,” the U.S. Capitol building would now be a smoldering pile of ashes - and every politician who was still present there would have been swinging by the neck from the lamp posts. You, sir, are a damned senseless fool, attempting to enrich your brand at the expense of others. Take your “West Point” credentials, and shove them up your puckered butthole - no, check that ... Shove them up your putrid “pussy.”
Mike, you did nothing to stop the witch hunt over the innocent Duke Lacrosse guys when it was plainly obvious they were being railroaded. Sit down and shut up, you have no moral standing over anything.
The Left finally found a riot they didn’t like.
Duke is one of the most liberal schools in the United States. There is no tolerance for free speech or conservative thought on that campus. Coach K is an employee of Duke. He is virtue signaling to his employers.
The NCAA is nothing more than a money making not-for-profit company providing farm team services for the NFL and NBA, and channeling hundreds of millions of dollars to leftist colleges and universities.
I no longer watch professional sports or college sports of any kind. As a bonus, by not viewing sports on television I do not give ratings to ESPN, NBC Sports, or Fox Sports. There are many other activities I can participate in to enjoy and enrich my life.
I have also stopped giving money to my alma mater as well as any charitable organization that promotes social justice memes and progressive causes.
All the more reason to hate Duke.
My son and I drove down to Chapel Hill to watch the 2005 NCAA championship in one of the pubs on Franklin St. We got there around 5:30pm and there was not one empty chair to be found. We ended up standing outside on the sidewalk watching the game with a crowd of others through a large window at one of the eateries.
A commercial came on with Coach K pitching Chevy and the instant his face appeared there was a roaring, collective “Boo!” from every bar in the town and every house and apartment. Never heard anything like it before.
This moron practically fell out of his high chair cheering for “Black Lives Matter.”
Duke is a political cesspool. He probably need to do stuff like this to stay there.
Old cheating Rat Face speaks! I’m just as furious about my former college basketball team. I’m born and raised in Kentucky do college basketball is in my blood, University of Kentucky basketball to be specific. Saturday the men’s UK basketball team took a knee during the National Anthem with the coaches approval. It broke my heart they did this awful thing. I’m done with that part of my life thanks to leftist idiocy.
Most of the state is furious but the golden triangle in Kentucky(Lexington, Louisville & Covington) approves of this hate and it’s hate. They are promoting the hate of the police and the country. My wife rails against the kneelers and BLM for promoting blind hate. All these black parents who from their child’s birth tells them you hate the police, never trust the police, they are all bigots. She says our son is a rookie cop and these purveyors of hate have taught their kids to automatically hate him, lumping all police as bad cops. If it were reversed and the kids were taught to hate all blacks or Hispanics it would be called hate and bigotry.
This guys manages people that run around with a ball. Why do we care what he says about some political event? Should we be interested in his thoughts quantum physics or string theory?
I’ve had many reasons to hate Duke over the years. They were a prime competitor back when my alma mater was in the ACC.
Another reason is what Duke did to their lacrosse team over the false accusations Crystal Mangum made.
And then more than 80 faculty signed a letter condemning them with no proof.
This is just one more cheerio in the bowl.
FUMK and the basketball you rolled in on.
Can a coach of today’s football or basketball teams be anything other than a raging anti-Trumper or a maniacal pro-BLMer without risking his/her career? I don’t think so.
Love the LEGO set.
“Go Tar Heels.”
Nah! UNC Chapel Hill is one of those Liberal hotbeds that you don’t want to root for.
