McConnell circulates procedures for second senate impeachment trial of Trump

Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Friday circulated to colleagues a memo outlining the procedure for holding another trial for President Trump if the House impeaches him for a second time in just over a year.

The document, which was first reported by The Washington Post, lays out how the Senate would proceed if the House approves articles of impeachment and transmits them to the upper chamber before or by Jan. 19, when senators are scheduled to resume regular business after the January recess.

It could work if Donald Trump was on board. I smell revenge in the air, and I’d be more than willing to join up and stick it to the Repukes and the Rats. People on Parler, FR, and thedonald.win are ready for a new party, and a new social media site started by President Trump.

“will presage a golden age for the Democrats”

When they can print as many votes as they need, what more could they want?

Guess Mitch plans on this being his last term in the senate

He'll be 79 next month and just won a new six-year term last November, I think he feels pretty secure.

Voting is easy. Civil war is hard, dangerous and life-threatening. I prefer to do the easy stuff first. When they start napalming us - then we’ll break out the ordnance.

Well...

...in that case, I want Woodrow Wilson impeached posthumously.

Reading the comments, there is really some thick-headedness going on in this thread.

Of course Mitch has to lay out the trial rules - he is still Majority Leader. But the second the Fraud is inaugurated, the case becomes MOOT. Make a motion to the Chief Justice to dismiss, or simply dismiss on a voice vote.

And whatever the outcome of that vote, its legally a nullity.

Trump's not going to run again anyway. And that may turn out to bite the 'Rats on the ass in 2024. If the economy has tanked, and they can't motivate their voters by running the "orange Hitler" meme again, the GOP might actually have a chance.

Except for the Blue state fraud system. The GOP needs to take back some Governorships and Sec'y of State offices.

That’s how I read it as well. People are wired these days and aren’t being careful of reading what’s written...

I think he definitely will. What he just did was for 2 reasons - fund-raising and the creation of a bloody shirt event. Mission accomplished. Voters will remember the steal when he brings it up in 2024.

I don’t understand what the Democrats feel they will gain by impeaching Trump, other than show how vindictive they are.

All of the unity B.S. that Biden said a few weeks ago is not forgotten by Democrats. They have absolutely no desire to unit the nation or heal the divide. They just want to punish the those that loose. I hope that Karma strikes them when they loose power again.

I’ll never vote for a republican again. Except desantis.

We have a group of maybe six to eight in Congress who still seem solid, but that’s about it. And that’s obviously not nearly enough to provide a foundation for a functional Republican Party. The few good guys need to leave and move to whatever we are going to call the replacement party. There’s no way now to reform the existing party.

Read the impeachment document. They say “encouraged insurrection” but do not provide any evidence. No quotes from speech, absolutely nothing other than lies.

Can (or MUST) it be a voice vote?

“Does anyone read these articles? This one says:

“The Senate trial would therefore begin after President Trump’s term has expired – either one hour after its expiration on Jan. 20, or twenty-five hours after its expiration on Jan. 21,””

Congress has so many obscure and complex rules who knows what they can do after Trump leaves office. I do know that Mitch”s wife quit the Trump admin and it’s been reported that Mitch says he will never speak to Trump again. Lots of hard feelings there so no reason to think the Turtle will do Trump any favors.

Impeachment for what?

For standing up to an attempted communist takeover of the United States.

Yep. Jeb or Rubio would be good choices. If one of them had won in 2016, none of the current unpleasantness would have happened.

But in all seriousness, I don't view GOP having a chance as a postitive thing. Different from DEMs? sure. Quite different. Ask me if I care.

They are a conquering army. In order to hold the ground they need to destroy the oppoent. They will use the rule of law to do so. Disqualify from office, and voila.

If nothing else, this gambit is a good fundraiser and morale booster for their supporters, the press, and so on.
