Virginia removes Robert E. Lee statue from U.S. Capitol

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Governor Northam announced that Virginia’s statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee was removed from the U.S. Capitol overnight.

A representative from the governor’s office was present for the removal along with United States Senator Tim Kaine and Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton.

For 111 years, the Confederate statue has stood along with America’s first president George Washington as Virginia’s contributions.

The two statues were added in 1909, which was 44 years after the Confederacy rebelled against the United States and was defeated.

...they had to do it overnight....great....and from what I have read this statue will be replaced by one of a young black female who no one knows anything about, but hey, what the heck....virtue signalling at its best...

Two comments:

First and the most important by far, history is written by the winners. So, there you have it, we have lost and do not see it or know it.

Second, can I bring my dog to the unveiling ceremony of the replacement statue?

Sad. History is history is history. Changing it is just opening a whole can of worms (not to mention being wrong).

General Lee should’ve gone to the right on round top and rolled up the flank as General Hood implored him to do...

I’ve mentioned this before.. I took a tour of the USMA West Point 20 or so years ago, and I was actually taken aback that no statues out on the grounds were of any graduated Confederate generals. In USMA vocabulary the Confederates were the enemy.

After reading history and opinion on General Lee I have come to the conclusion that he didn’t really leave the union to join the Confederacy, he left the Union Army so that he could go to Virginia and try to ensure that the aristocracy of Virginia was left intact. Which I think he rather succeeded in.

demonicRATS trying to erase the history of the demonicRAT roots of slavery, white supremacy, segregation, The KKK, Jim Crow laws, destruction of the black family, etc.

But, it's not really an erasure, it's a cover-up.

IF they start renaming structures named in honor of Robert KKK Byrd and removing statues of him, THEN they might be getting series about righting their wrongs. MIGHT be.

Lee was not a slave owner, he wasn't even a landowner. The 'plantation' was his wife's and he abhorred slavery. He and General Grant were alike in many ways.
Too many times we look at history through modern eyes. The USA was a very different country back then. People need to understand that before the civil war one's loyalty was to their state and the state's common union, not the federal government. When the 'northern' states started changing the rules to intrude on other state's sovereignty the southern states seceded.
Lee did what he felt was right, just as many of us will. Unfortunately history is written by the victors and skewed by time.

“If strife and civil war are to take the place of brotherly love and kindness, I shall mourn for my country and for the welfare and progress of mankind.”
~ Robert E. Lee, 1860

Lee was probably the most honorable Confederate official there was. As an American military commander he was one of the best.

Or, quietly swung around and positioned himself between the Union Army and DC, thus forcing it to attack him..... lots of good decent creeks and higher ground from Hanover.... Westminster and so forth.

Lee was Commandant of West Point. A Mexican War hero and leader of the US Army. His father was Revolutionary War hero Light Horse Harry Lee, Commander of Lee’s Legion (Horse Cavalry Dragoons who destroyed Banastre Tarleton and ran Brit Gen. Cornwallis right out of NC and... Virginia).

Lee swore a Loyalty Oath, as required to have his Civil Rights restored under an edict from President Johnson. This is now archived— having been “found” between the pages of a book in the Library of Congress— purposefully hidden for many years.

None of the CSA leadership was ever declared treasonous- because they were not- not under the Constitution (even as it is written today).

So, what this turd of human waste “physician” “abortionist” pediatrician “governor” “blackface” VMI fraud has done is try to erase this family from VA history. They cannot do this- and they will be stopped. To be sure they want to continue through the 1619 fraud history and remove the First President of the US George Washington, and the genius though leaders of our Founders— all of them, from our History. Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, John Hancock, Hamilton, Madison, Randolph.. the thinkers and actuators of our very Freedom.

We decided the “issue” this idiot governor thinks he (and Tim Kaine the child molester with his AntiFA son was there also... Tim Kaine- mark him)— can remove the deaths of 700K Americans for the sake of principles of individual States who joined in the Union, and who left it just as voluntarily. People like this governor are cheap cheese artists who appeal to the stupidest in the masses... the mob in the street— the “democracy” that ALL of the Founders found so abhorrent they never used the word unaccompanied by the concept of a Republic. A representative Constitutional Republic.

This act will not go unpunished. Starting with the bag man for the Clintons who controls this a@@hole governor- McAulliffe, who thinks he has a shot at re-election- a criminal thug bottle a day alkie from New York.

That was not Lee’s intention. He wanted to find ground suitable for the purpose and attack the Army of the Potomac.

Only those approved by the election committee can win in Virginia now.

We’ll see about that. There is incredible anger in the people who run and own the state, with a long tradition of action. Decisive action.

By law the soldiers of the confederacy are US military veterans, and their monuments are monuments to US military veterans.

Based on the election results for so many years now, people in VA would favor the attacks on General Lee. Many may not have even hears of the general. Fly your flags on Jan. 19!!!
