I was certain that Collins was going to lose. I’m no fan but for the time being I’m glad she won.

Excellent. That is a big win.

Susan Collins voted for the Trump tax cuts and the overwhelmingly majority of the president’s judicial picks.
The RAT challenger would have voted NO on all of the above.
I live in Maine’s Second District, by the way.

If she were, they wouldn’t run anyone against her. Without her, ME would be solid blue. She’s a wily political operator, and more conservative than all Democrat senators except for Manchin. But Manchin is in a solid red state that has Republicans in pretty much all statewide offices and gave Trump a 45% margin. (So he’s somewhat moderate just to survive politically). Whereas Trump lost Maine, underperforming Collins by 7%. By Maine standards, Collins is so right-wing, she might as well be Barry Goldwater and Joe McCarthy rolled into one. Yet she keeps winning.

She’s actually pretty smart, politically.
Mitch lets her have her protest votes on minor issues, but one on the votes that count, she’s on our side ... she said no to impeachment, yes to all the judges, and destroyed that faker Christine Basey Ford’s credibility, allowing the Kavanaugh confirmation to succeed
Let’s give her credit, we need her
and it would be a LOT worse if the Democrat won
To: ScottinVA
True. If Biden pulls off the steal, Collins will vote to confirm all of his leftist judges, including for the Sup Court. Shell vote for gun bans and other anti-Second Amendment legislation that comes her way. Shell vote for radical pro-LGBT legislation that comes her way.
But she wont vote to end the filibuster, so hopefully bad legislation can be stopped before she gets to vote for its final passage.

Not quite. Doing the right thing 35% of the time (Collins) is better than 0% of the time (psycho bitch Gideon).
As much are we aren’t exactly Collins’ biggest fans, she is a far better option than the alternative. She wouldn’t survive a primary in a truly conservative state, but this is Maine and — like it or not — is probably the best we can do. Who was Maine’s last actually conservative Senator?
Sure, I’d love to see Paul LePage in the Senate.... and he’d have lost by 15 points yesterday.

She won by 9 points. That wasn’t close. Pollsters are frauds. She was supposed to lose by 5. They just lie. It’s not more complex than that. Quinnipiac had her losing by 12. Only 21 points off.

Gideon went up against the best, who won her last election by over 20%. No shame in losing to Collins. Getting within single digits was an achievement. And the polls were dead wrong, with the last one showing a Gideon lead of 6 points. Would have been right if it were for Biden vs Trump.
