Could Weird Austin Go Red? Local GOP Says Dems Are Donating to Republicans in Record Numbers
PJ Media ^ | 10/22/2020 | Megan Fox

Austin has long been the blue dot in Texas’ red sea. But that could change soon.

The Travis County GOP Communications Director Andy Hogue says there’s every reason for citizens of Austin to be optimistic about Republican races this year. Hogue told PJ Media, “Democrats are donating to us in unprecedented numbers. We’ve never seen this before.” Hogue says that the local GOP recognizes regular donors but when new names started coming in, they started looking them up to see who they are.

“We kept finding Democrats who have never donated before.”

Two seats on the all-Democrat Austin City Council are hotly contested. Newcomer Republican candidate Mackenzie Kelly is challenging in District 6, doing well, and could deliver an upset.

Hogue says that Austin has become a tent city since the far-left takeover of the city council. The people of Austin are not happy with the mess and the huge increase in crime that came with defunding the police budget by a third. Louis C. Herrin III is running for the other contested seat on the council, opposing the far-left agenda and supporting law and order.

Austin was safer before Greg Casar! Vote him out! This is not humane, compassionate or safe! One of my top priorities is to reinstate the public camping ban! #votelouisherrin pic.twitter.com/FH8eOaAh1P

The article posted states that Travis County has record high level support for Republicans and Travis County and Harris County and Dallas County have voted Republican in past elections. Since those counties now have record support for Republicans, Trump will win every county in Texas.

You know what I think it is-—Arizonians are so used to great weather they always vote on ED. There is never a chance that they cannot go vote on ED.

No reason to get carried away. He doesn’t need every county and given places like Houston and all that there is no chance of carrying every county. However, it would be nice to keep that 9 or 10 point win cushion going.

Visited Austin a month ago, tent 20 feet from the hotel on an empty lot looked they were well established, furniture by the fire, every overpass a tent camp, trash everywhere. Sister has been there 2 years, ready to get out as fast as they can.

We’re not (well, most of us) prone to running around shouting “We’re doomed!”. Most just go out and buy more ammo.

I quit going to the range about May because of the ammo shortage. I keep a few thousand rounds, but this is where I was going to put my new ammo stash...

That would be the shock of the year if Austin went red.

Little note on Texas Monthly and Paul Burka, who was the writer of the article on your post. Burka was a hit man for Mike Levy, who was the founder of TM.

Dirtiest sorriest couple of people I ever met. Nothing but hit jobs. Think of a New Yorker who put on cowboy boots and hat, then still sold communism. That's Texas Monthly.

I believe Mackenzie Kelly is going to win the District 6 seat and Jennifer Virden the District 10 seat. People here are FED UP with the current Mayor/Council, bigtime.

“Texas will prove to be a solid Republican, from Loving County to Harris County. There are no more Democrat counties in the Lone Star State.”

Optimism is nice. But there’s a line (and it’s not even a fine line) between that and outright delusion.

It would be a start. But the garbage runs deep in Austin.

...moved to Texas some years ago and one of the first things I did was get a subscription to Texas Monthly...bad decision. Waste of my money... it is a liberal rag, mostly full of ads for lawyers, doctors, real estate people, etc...severl articles were full of profanity.... many months, it went directly from my mail box to my recycling bin...let my subscription expire and never looked back, never missed an issue...

I just saw this interesting and related comment on twitter:

Nick T
@TXVet4Trump
“I drive through an Austin suburb a few days a week. For a long time, smattering of biden and/or “science” signs, then American flags started popping out. On Monday the first Trump sign appeared. Apparently that opened the floodgates bc now there’s a ton of Trump flags and signs!”

Trump will win every county in Texas.

Sorry, that's just not going to happen. Trump will win the state, but won't win Harris, Dallas, Bexar, and El Paso counties. And I seriously doubt Republicans do anything in Travis Country. Would be nice, but just don't see that happening.

...not to worry... given the current makeup of Austin’s city council, etc., all of whom seem to be slightly to the left of Karl Marx, the chances of ATX going red would appear to be slim to none.....
