Fox News’ Chris Wallace says he's “sad” about how the presidential debate he moderated Tuesday night turned out and that he never dreamt that it would “go off the tracks the way it did,” in a phone interview with The New York Times.
The 90-minute debate between President Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden began and ended with the candidates interpreting and talking over each other – at times with harsh words.
Trump said Biden was not "smart.” Biden called Trump a “clown" and asked him to “shut up.”
“I’m just sad with the way last night turned out,” Wallace told The Times, in the first interview that the “Fox News Sunday” anchor gave after the debate. “I’ve read some of the reviews. I know people think, well, gee, I didn’t jump in soon enough.”
Wallace seemed to put much of the blame on Trump.
“I guess I didn’t realize – and there was no way you could, hindsight being 20/20 – that this was going to be the president’s strategy, not just for the beginning of the debate but the entire debate,” he said in the interview.
He also called the debate a “terrible missed opportunity” and said, “I never dreamt that it would go off the tracks the way it did.”

You’re sad because you’re suffering the same fate Megyn Kelly did, and you’re not nearly as young. Time for you and Roberts to retire to that cabin you bought together in Thailand.
The “will you denounce white supremacy” question was Wallace’s attempt to put doubt in suburban women’s mind. That was sneaky because 1) Wallace knew Trump already denounced it several times. 2) That’s the kind of fear suburban women have. Trump has a hard time getting their vote and that question just adds further doubt into their minds. Biden was never questioned about his “if you are black you vote Democrat” remark.

Chris, you are the one who threw it off the tracksa. You interrupted the President a dozen times in the first few minutes of the debate. THAT set the stage for the president to defend himself against 2 opponents.
He is sad that he did not make the President look bad.

He’s “sad” because the vast majority of the polls say Trump won the debate—so Wallace failed to accomplish his mission, destroying Trump and helping Plugs.
Wallace also knows his so called “journalist” credentials have been exposed and severely tainted, he’s nothing more than a Don Lemon with bleached skin.
