Fauci calls 200,000 pandemic death toll ‘sobering, and in some respects, stunning’

Dr. Anthony Fauci on Tuesday said the US reaching 200,000 coronavirus deaths is “very sobering, and in some respects, stunning,” while adding that Americans should trust medical experts despite at times conflicting signals from the highest levels of government.

“The idea of 200,000 deaths is really very sobering, and in some respects, stunning,” the nation’s top infectious doctor told CNN’s Sanjay Gupta during the Citizen by CNN conference shortly before the US reached the grim milestone late Tuesday morning. “We do have within our capability — even before we get a vaccine, which we will get reasonably soon — we have the capability by doing things that we have been speaking about for so long, Sanjay, that could prevent the transmission, and by preventing transmission, ultimately preventing the morbidity and mortality that we see.” He mentioned measures such as frequent hand washing and mask wearing.

Fauci said he is concerned about the country not having control of the virus’ spread ahead of the winter season that could exacerbate it.

I would like to see the deaths during the time frame of March 1 2020 to August 31 2020 compared to same time frame in 2019, 2018, 2017 etc. Adjusted for pop growth, etc. That would tell me how many really died of Convid19. I would also like to see the data at a per state level.

You are correct, the number is inflated. They attribute deaths to corona virus that are heart attacks, pneumonia, etc. Early on, before there was a test, they counted every death that had mere symptoms of corona virus even though that was never substantiated.

In any given flu year, you have 50,000 - 80,000 deaths, in an “average” year.

No one denies that there is a virus.

No one denies that people are dying.

However, like global warming, the ozone hole, acid rain, DDT, or most other issues politicians and government bureaucrats touch, things get contorted/twisted. Political, bureaucratic, and economic interests take these issues and make them their own, driving their agenda. By the time politicians are done trying to give us bullshit explanations that make themselves look good and their opponent bad, government agencies want to expand their scope, budget and manpower, and business wants to make a buck in all that, the solutions offered have little pragmatism. Examples: DDT ban, paper and glass recycling, 1 gallon flush consumer toilets mandated by the EPA a while back, HPV vaccine years ago in Texas...

Even if it’s a real problem, what comes from Washington is no more than bumper sticker politics, stuff that needs to be over simplified and dumbed down, a quick answer some bobble head can take and talk about on TV, like inflating your tires as an energy policy (Obama in 2008), or wearing a mask against a contagious virus (Biden 2020).

"Had Hillary won they would have been praising her leadership keeping deaths down as much."

Had Hillary won, news reports on COVID would nothave died off by mid-March. "What difference does it make?"

200,000 deaths are always a shame.

The round number does not make the 200,000th any more important and meaningful than, say, the 7th.

This whole thing has been a shame. I did not think Trumps response was good at first, but he recovered quickly and has done as well as anyone could have under the circumstances.

The blame lies squarely on China, the WHO, and CDC. Their screw ups at the start put Trump in a position of believing bogus information—and he could not act in good form.

The history books will be kind to Trump on this. The magazines, not so much. I think the average person understands this. The average Democrat does not want to.

200,000 deaths is total BS, but most people believe it. Just like they believed that it makes sense to quarantine the healthy instead of the sick and vulnerable.

In his second term, I expect Trump will drain the CDC and NIH swamps of unelected, agenda-driven bureaucrats (along with the FBI and CIA).

The gloves will really come off in the second term, as he will have nothing to lose.

That was the imperial college projection for the United States, but the goalposts have been moved by the political players.

It’s a virus. That might have delayed it. But not killed it.

Viruses are gonna virus.

While I continue to oppose the lockdown, I find the deaths stunning and sad as well. Many of them were probably in their last year of life anyway, but covid hastened it along like many viruses would have.

We can’t know for certain how many would have died of flu or viral pneumonia etc had we not locked down. Or whether these covid deaths would have occurred had we not locked down. Heavy lockdown areas have more deaths in many calculations.

But we do know the toll that the lockdown has taken in is. That is a certainty.

7,500 people die every day in he USA,In addition 5-10 percent of the population has tested positive for the covid19 chinese flu of which the flawed testing many of those a false positives. But still Dr Fascist has been ok labeling up to 10 precent of the natural 7,500 people who die every day in the USA as covid deaths , 750 per day. Doing the math, counting 750 deaths a day mostly elderly over 75 years old, the natural age for old age deaths adds up to 135,000 extra deaths counted as covid over the last six months since April 2020 ..

Subtracting 135,000 equals 65 thousand, which is typical for a flu.. Also typical for a flu, most of those who die have had other illnesses , very few people actually die from viruses alone, 6 %..

Maybe Dr Fascist should find it sobering that he liar and take up the overall causes of all deaths with God who has allowed people to choose evil or good, and those like the Dr are the ones who are spreading spiritual disease the real cause of all death .

As for our handling of it we are in the middle of the pack per capita with most western democracies that have similar medical facilities and reporting.

If anything, out of all countries, we have financial and political incentive to over -report. Which I am certain that we have.

Many of the countries reporting low case and death rates are probably lying or just don’t have the infrastructure to keep tabs.

But I know many have died even if over reported. I blame the virus and anyone who may have engineered or distributed it. And the only response I blame is the “house them in convalescent homes” Cuomo policy, a ten year old knows you shouldn’t do that. I can’t see how that was accidental.

A shade more than 200k CoVID related deaths, and they call President Trump a “mass murderer”, when in reality it’s more like 11k who died from the virus itself.

Yet there are over 600k who die of heart disease each year.

Over 500k who die from cancer each year.

I called for a 14-day hard lockdown (grocery stores and methadone clinics closed) around the beginning of April.

You did?!!?? Why didn't we listen to you? If only.
