Trump challenges Fauci over comments on coronavirus surges: 'Wrong!'

President Trump on Saturday publicly rejected Anthony Fauci's analysis on why the United States has experienced a surge in coronavirus cases, claiming that the nation's top infectious disease expert wasn't accounting for the U.S. testing capacity.

"Wrong!" Trump said in a tweet that linked to a video of Fauci's Friday testimony before Congress.

In a hearing focused on the federal response to the global health crisis, Fauci said that the U.S. was experiencing a much more severe resurgence in coronavirus cases than countries in Europe because many American states failed to completely shut down.

"If you look at what happened in Europe when they shut down or locked down or went into shelter-in-place. … They really did it to the tune of about 95-plus percent of the country did that," Fauci said.

---

Wrong! We have more cases because we have tested far more than any other country, 60,000,000. If we tested less, there would be less cases. How did Italy, France & Spain do? Now Europe sadly has flare ups. Most of our governors worked hard & smart. We will come back STRONG!

"When you actually look at what we did, even though we shut down, even though we created a great deal of difficulty, we really functionally shut down only about 50 percent in the sense of the totality of the country," he added.

Trump, who has repeatedly touted the U.S. testing capacity in the face of criticism, claimed in his Saturday tweet that the reason the country had such a high case count was because "we have tested far more than any other country."

"If we tested less, there would be less cases. How did Italy, France & Spain do? Now Europe sadly has flare ups. Most of our governors worked hard & smart. We will come back STRONG," Trump said.

The comments marked the latest instance in which tensions between those in the White House and Fauci have spilled out into the open. Several administration officials have publicly questioned Fauci's health assessments, with White House trade adviser Peter Navarro writing in a USA Today op-ed last month that American should treat the health expert's advice with skepticism.

Trump last week retweeted a message that Fauci has "misled" the American people on a variety of issues, including the safety of a controversial anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine. Fauci responded by saying that he has not misled the public about the pandemic.

As of Sunday morning, the U.S. had reported more than 4.6 million cases of COVID-19, the diseased caused by the novel coronavirus, and roughly 154,000 deaths stemming from it, according to a Johns Hopkins University database. A sustained surge in infections in recent months spurred many states to halt reopening plans and implement mask mandates.

Trump has continually cited the U.S. testing capacity as the reason for these surges. Health experts, including Fauci, have said, however, that an uptick in cases cannot be explained by an increase in testing.

Fauci reiterated this point during his testimony on Friday, stating that the surge in cases was caused by several factors, including states not abiding "strictly by the guidelines that the task force and the White House had put out" when beginning a phased reopening.

Trump has maintained that he has a good relationship with Fauci, who polls have shown to be one of the most trusted voices in the country speaking about the health crisis.

"He’s got this high approval rating, so why don’t I have a high approval rating ... with respect to the virus?" Trump asked aloud at a White House press conference on Monday.

The increases in cases was vastly higher than increases in testing in recent resurgent states. It’s NOT just the testing!

If you define a “case” broadly enough and allow labs (usually in Republican states) to report all tests as positive, this will happen. One person in a family can test positive and never show symptoms, and everyone in the family is quarantined and counted as a case. I’ve seen this happen. And even if the reported case shows symptoms, they are usually minor, as with a bad cold.

I’m disappointed in Dr. Fauci...the CDC has clear estimates of how widespread the disease is, through two rounds of seroprevalence studies from blood banks with the high estimate of NYC showing about 20% of the population with either active or past infection of covid 19. That was as of May 6th.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/commercial-lab-surveys.html

ANY number of tested cases as an estimate of how widespread the disease is, is a total misstatement of what the current science has to offer. Stanford U, the Ohio prison system testing, and a few other studies confirm the vastly understated number of infections. At least an order of magnitude, probably 20-30 times higher than the “tested positive” cases.

I heard Dr. Fauci testify that the Henry Ford HCQ results were clouded by steroid treatments that were concurrent, and then say UNNAMED studies did not have the same/similar results. But a Yale epidemiologist disagrees, yet the media only reports the people that they can discredit. We need a healthier skepticism of our media sources, our government bureaucrats, and politicians who have shadowy alliances that seem to pervade DC.

“...needs to be carried of to the crazy house in a straitjacket.”

I beg to differ. He should be hanged in front of CDC hq. as a warning that others should get their stuff together, or suffer the same fate!

“Meanwhile, attention whore Fauci has had no problems at all condemning churches, bars , restaurants, barber shops etc who opened up again to save their businesses and feed their families.”

One effect of such closings that is being overlooked:

These public venues - churches, diners, taverns, restaurants, gyms, pool halls, barbershops, town halls, etc. - are all the places that NORMAL working class patriots have always gathered to loudly express their opinions.

Riots, protests, and “marches” are for unemployed Leftists and sexual deviants - normal people like to gather at churches, diners, coffee shops, deli’s, sports bars, gyms, stadiums, barbershops, barbecues, pool halls, VFW clubs, Trump rallies - even the retiree’s fast food breakfast clubs - to “solve the problems of the world” over a pint of beer, a cup of coffee or an egg-a-muffin.

The Democrats have purposely targeted all of the traditional ways that normal working class patriots tend to gather and pass judgment on political leaders - AS IS OUR OBLIGATION - in a self-governing Constitutional Republic.

William Penn, Benjamin Franklin and many other early city planners insisted that there should be a “public house” (a pub) on every street corner, for this very purpose:

Free and lively public discourse is essential to the cause of preserving Liberty in a self-governing Republic.

The Democrats are obviously using the China virus to muzzle patriots, while encouraging violent mobs of anti-American deviants and malcontents to riot and terrorize as they please.

How can we stand by and let this happen?

I would love to see/hear a compilation of Fauci’s many contradictions.

Have you ever heard Rush Limbaugh’s compilation of Bob Torricelli’s statements mixed with testimony of the gifts he received while in office?

Great stuff for showing the contradictions between Torricelli’s words and deed, where he says one thing and court testified reality says another.

Fauci is overripe, low hanging fruit just begging to be picked.

His time in the light has gone to his head and he’s heading for the next act in that series.

A haughty spirit before a fall? ... Pride before destruction?

What’s it gonna be, doc.

How is Florida doing?

Cases started trending down 16 days ago. Deaths are probably at or close to peak.

Snip

You know, I never even thought of that aspect of it.
You are exactly right.
This whole “coronavirus pandemic” hoax is a very carefully planned, well executed plan to take down the Republic, destroy conservatism and the working class and install Joe Dementia as a figurehead president while Soros, Brennan, Obama, BLM/Antifa etc turn America into an unlivable far left, very woke hell hole.
