The U.S. Federal Protective Service is spending $125,000 on sunglasses to protect federal officers' eyes from lasers shone at them by protesters, according to a procurement request.
The July 10 document cites the use of lasers by Portland protesters as a reason to buy 1,000 pairs of Stingerhawk FT-2 Laser Protective Eyewear.
"Our FPS personnel saw these lasers used firsthand in Portland," the request says, "and had discussions with Seattle Police Officers who felt the effects on the first night of rioting and then utilized laser resistant safety glasses and expressed that they were very effective."

Exactly. These are professional agitators, no doubt being bankrolled by Soros Inc!
So how come it doesn’t slice the earth in half?
Oakley, Wiley X, EES and others all make laser safe sunglasses.
My idea of effectiveness is tracing these clowns down with drones, grabbing their butts, and sending them away for about 40 years.
Must be kept in a locked safe tho.
Fine, Schmine. They did permanent eye damage to some of those officers.
There are lots of manufacturers of laser eye wear
Just because a mfg makes sunglasses doesnt mean they are safe for eye protection from lasers. The headline is stupid. The article was clear. The purchase was for laser PPE
“The headline is stupid.”
It’s from Willamette Week, what were you expecting?
Collimated light will focus to a tight spot on the retina resulting in an injury. Does not require the energy that an industrial laser requires to cut materials. Likely Antifa are using the green laser pointers implicated in prior attacks upon pilots of commercial aircraft.
That makes sense. Many thanks.

The problem is identifying the location of the source. A laser beam is invisible unless it passes through a medium like smoke. During the Iraq war, the military developed a system for automatically returning fire (with extreme prejudice) based on locating the muzzle blast by sound. Has the military solved the problem of tracking laser fire?
I hope the glasses have integral corner cubes.
It did. Good thing we have . . .
Anarchists use green pen-lasers to permanently blind officers.
Officers should use M-4 mounted red lasers and return light with lead.
