Simple reasons that he is staring at the polls showing a huge victory and doesn’t need to worry about having a convention. The current approaches winning and he loves winning.

"I’m female and live in a blue area in a blue state. I think Trump is doing fine in his attempt to try to pick off a few white women. This is the way to do it—he needs to act respectful of the virus instead of bored by it. They are scared of it and want to talk about it all the time. And they want a “mourner in chief.” And it is a vicious, nasty virus. They want a president who cares. He DOES have the rest of our votes in the bag."

I see women being scared of the virus in our neck of the woods too. Suburban liberal women. They put their virtue signaling signs out front and then go hide indoors until the bad orange man and scary virus go away. I don't know that many can be influenced to vote R, but maybe a few will be put off by the protests enough to consider it.

How about don’t hold a physical convention at all and use the money that would otherwise be spent on airfare, hotel rooms, pointless orgies in hotel rooms, verbal masturbation sessions in front of media cameras that will never go anywhere to, I don’t know, **crush the Democrats**???

They don’t have to vote for Trump. They just have to be convinced to not vote Dem.

The margins we see are beyond media manipulation of polls with 10-point oversampling Democrats. It is a comprehensive route with Trump heading towards 400 EV’s.

Exactly. The virus is “THE” issue to people outside of the cozy confines of Free Republic. It’s pretty much all anyone talks about outside of FR.

Just like the infamous “it’s the economy, stupid”..just substitute virus for economy.

I know we love to bash polls and they have indeed been totally wrong in the past..but outside of polls, what I’m hearing from friends and neighbors - NOT POLLS - is that our side is in huge trouble this time around - in large part because of Trump’s handling of the virus, which something like 68% of people allegedly see as being not good.

And while we’re talking polls, Fox News just had a battleground poll out this afternoon that shows us getting totally whallopped in MI, PA and MN. Yeah, I know..but just about EVERY poll is showing huge margins at this point - and we can’t go all ostrich mode on them and pretend they don’t exist or are just heavily skewed Dem..

Trump’s best chance to turn things around is if we get debates. Short of that..things aren’t looking great, and a big part of why is DJT’s handling of the virus.

The president’s words: “I looked at my team and I said, the timing for this event is not right. It’s just not right with what’s happened recently, the flareup in Florida, to have a big convention, it’s not the right time...For me, I have to protect the American people.”

I totally agree. Unfortunately, it seems our side is once again taking too much comfort in the “Dem oversampling” and “Republicans not willing to tell the truth when polled”..

The margins being reported in just about every single poll are WAY too large to be explained away by the usual reasons.

We need debates. Only if/when people get a REAL look at Biden (and his inability to even string two coherent sentences together) will we have a chance.

Convention doesn’t matter to your average suburban voter, and this time around would get a lot of negative press because of the virus - not to mention almost certain hassle from Antifa and the usual thugs. Better to cancel it (as he has) and do something virtual.

I hate to say it, but we’re in the mess we’re in solely because our side largely wanted to downplay the virus versus everyone pulling together to beat the damned thing. That is the biggest reason we’re in trouble. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Senate go Rat this time around, either. Same reason.

I see a lot of (justified) concern about mail in voting in the comments. I say Trump propose vote by appointment (maybe even a driveup system - if they can do it for Covid testing...). It could start early, people would have to show ID. It’d corral the fraud and could be done in a way that minimizes viral spread and makes people feel more secure (particularly the Independents Trump needs to win this thing).

That’s funny because from everything I’m hearing from friends and neighbors - NOT POLLS - is that our site is in great shape this time around - in large part because of Trumps handling of the virus and the massive destruction of Law & Order by democrats. And while we’re talking polls Trafalgar just had Trump winning Michigan and Pennsylvania and down only two in Wisconsin. So-called Trump supporters keep sticking their heads in the sand like ostriches and wanting to project bad news Trump’s next chance to increase his lead is in the debates. In addition is a things are looking great for Trump and a big reason for that is his handling of the virus and the economy.

Well, I like your answer better than what I’m seeing on the ground.

Let’s see what happens.

Really? Unfortunately I can’t find him at this moment but if you go to realclearpolitics.com many many many poles haf Clinton with 10 to 15 Point leads consistently over the summer. It can be easily explained by Dem oversampling.

‘Does he do this if he is ahead in his internal polling as much as we think he is?’

he’s ceding points that Biden has already addressed weeks ago...if he had anything internal in his back pocket, hanging on to it isn’t going to help him at this point; internal polling...? release it now...

What are you seeing on the ground? What does that mean seeing on the ground? Because in many instances of Twitter feeds that I follow and friends who I talk to they either did not vote in 2016 voted for Gary Johnson or even in some cases voted for Hillary and this year can’t stand the lack of Law and Order and are voting for Trump. I mean they were hostile the Trump Twitter feeds internal voting for Trump you know they can’t stand him personally.

Agreed that Law & Order “should” be a big issue this time around..but it seems that many (at least suburban) voters are not viewing the riots as being caused by Dem policy (eg: Dem mayors basically letting things run wild) but because of “social injustice”.

Add in the media doing their usual thing (describing the thugs as “peaceful protestors” and our side in all manner of negative language - gestapo, stormtroopers, etc), I’m not sure that L&O is going to be something that your “average” voter is going to associate with one party vs the other..

Like I said..we will see..I actually hope I’m wrong but have a sinking feeling that Nov 4 (or whenever the inevitable court battles end) is not going to be pleasant for any of us.
