Trump exposes 'academia’s addiction' to foreign students....
washingtonexaminer. ^ | 7/22/2020 | Brian Lonergan

Trump recently swatted a hornet's nest when Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced that foreign students would have to leave the country or transfer if their school only offers online classes in the fall.

After several schools filed for a restraining order, Trump rescinded the ICE change and avoided a messy standoff. By firing volleys at the ivory tower, however, Trump pulled back the veil to reveal academia as the profit-driven, self-serving enterprise it is.

While the change would have caused inconvenience to many foreign students, the real impetus behind academia’s fervor in opposing the rule was money... Foreign students are a cash cow for higher education, paying roughly three times the tuition of in-state students. In 2015, public universities alone reaped a windfall of more than $9 billion in tuition and fees from foreign students.

The relationship between higher education and foreign students is also a driver for visa overstays. The Department of Homeland Security reported in 2017 that more than 606,000 visitors overstayed their tourist, work, business, and student visas. ... One of the many ways to live in the U.S. illegally is to obtain a student visa, then melt into the shadows of American society when the visa expires.

Academia’s addiction to foreign students is analogous to big business’s addiction to cheap foreign labor. They are both exploiting foreign nationals to pad their bottom lines. In both cases, American citizens tend to be excluded or replaced as a result. Despite their soaring ideals and ivy-covered buildings, our revered institutes of higher learning should be treated no differently than any other large corporations that play fast and loose with our immigration laws to increase cash flow.

I am a backer of President Trump but it was a bad move to impose the restriction and then back down, he should have stuck by it. Now he looks neutered.

Addiction to foreign students? This corrupt leftist operation ought to be brought up on RICO charges. The Universities have bled the middle class dry and now they need to import finances to keep their leftist academic safehouses operational.

Isn’t that what little Barry Soetoro did?

Things are linking together nicely...

Correct. Many/most foreign students pay full out of state tuition plus other fees.

Many of them are the children of rich despots or communist party favorites in their home countries.

From what I read, Zero came over to the US from Indonesia as an unaccompanied minor, had refugee status, was taken care of by some kind of Catholic refugee outfit (can’t remember more) which awas CT based, and thus his CT SS#. Then Stanley Ann D’s parents were appointed by the people funding him as “grandparents”. What exactly the paperwork was or is or has been throughout his life the researchers and no doubt Trump’s people know.

There have been thoughts that he claimed foreign student status at Occidental, he hung out with foreign students, may have lived in a foreign student dorm, but I never saw any solid evidence of that.

Didn't Barry Soetoro overstay his student visa?

I have an idea. How about we expose them?

I just googled up Harvard’s financial aid office:

https://college.harvard.edu/financial-aid

They cover foreign students the same as US students (including “undocumented” students).

BUT this is because they got such an enormous gift from alumn Ken Griffin they named the financial aid office after him. It used to be that foreign students paid full fees.

How about if Freepers check their local college and see if they “discriminate” against foreign students and start a campaign to expose their hypocrisy. They need that cash so watch them doing backflips trying to explain why any “dreamer” anywhere in the world ought to be able to show up in the US and get support from everyone EXCEPT them.

Basically US colleges are designed to be a privilege for the 1% of the 1% elsewhere in the world. They pocket cash from the elite in the world’s most unequal societies and then use it to preach how “unequal” our society is.

He’s neither perfect nor invincible.

His coronavirus reaction was forced upon him also, IMHO. Had he done nothing he would have looked bad, and that was the direction things were going early on when he was hesitant to take action (Remember Schumer and Pelosi and how they were laying into him for not doing more?). Then when he took action, he looks bad, because of the economic impact/damage and because he looks like he’s pandering and reactive (Biden’s narrative today)...

But he’s the best we have and better than anything the party has been offering us since 1988. Romney, McCain, Bush H., Bush W... RINO’s, sell outs, political snake oil salesmen, professional/career politicians without any principals.

Pelosi let him bring in 600,00 h1bs and send federal agents to clean up the streets. Must have been the endless spending he smiled and signed, with no end in sight.

Problem is, Trump is a “One Man Band”, his own Party doesn’t support him. He is all alone in Washington DC.

“Academia’s addiction to foreign students is analogous to big business’s addiction to cheap foreign labor. They are both exploiting foreign nationals to pad their bottom lines.”

Who’s being ‘exploited’?

Academia is, in effect, exporting services. Just as the tourism industry does. In each case, the foreigner comes to the USA, to receive the services. Unlike domestic students, foreign students take useful courses, and they get their money’s worth. The foreign students are willing customers, they aren’t being exploited. Meanwhile, the GDP benefits.

But how do you obtain a social security number or driver’s license if you are here illegally?

this is true

our local public community college has over 1000 foreign students, almost all from Communist China. why?
because the college recruits them!!!
why? because they pay higher fees than local students.
its all about $$$$$$$$$$$ to fund more of the administrators’ slush fund projects

incidentally, the state universities have tens of thousands of foreign students, many or the majority of those are also from Communist China. Interestingly, the majority of the commie students enroll in engineering and science courses...
a few in business .... mostly high tech....guess why?
and at the state universities, they get into research programs, many of which are funded by DOD and other taxpayer-supported agencies. The security risks are patent

If my mother’s assisted living center needs to be weekly tested and locked inside for months, then these students should as well.
