Arms industry: Gun buys up 95%, ammo 139%, sales to blacks jump 58%.....

The gun industry has never seen anything like 2020, and the explosion in sales driven by the concerns over rising crime, protests, the coronavirus crisis, and the presidential election are expected to continue.

“Bottom line is that there has never been a sustained surge in firearm sales quite like what we are in the midst of,” the National Shooting Sports Foundation, an industry trade group, said in a report shared with Secrets.

New sales and customer data collected from gun stores are even more shocking than the latest historic level of FBI background checks for purchases, security clearances, and concealed carry permits.

“Approximately 90 percent of retailers reported an increase in firearm and ammunition sales during the first half of 2020 versus the first half of 2019,” said the report.

Sales, meanwhile, aren't just to the traditional customer base of white males. The report said that the surge is among others, especially blacks, Asians, and Hispanics.

“Time to buy ammo was last year”

Plenty of ammo if you know where to find it.

Was monitoring an auction this past weekend looking for some “deals”. A local gun shop was being liquidated and there was a huge inventory. Lowers, ammo, pistols, rifles, you name it.

All.... and I mean all ammo sold for double to triple MSRP. Practically all firearms sold for hundreds over “normal” prices. Some AR mags went for reasonable prices, aluminum lowers were $140-160, plastic lowers about the same, even the used books went for double “normal”. It was insanity on the prices this stuff was fetching.

Just sat there shaking my head realizing most of the buying was more or less panic oriented.

People don’t typically purchase firearms legally with the intent to commit a crime. You buy something off the street for that. When you look at where many of the riots and looting have been happening, it’s often in black neighborhoods. A lot of people (particularly first time buyers) start buying guns and ammo when they’re feeling unsafe in their environment.

Bingo.

I just bought 1000 rounds of .223 @ .44 per round. I’m done!

It’s .27 cents value at the most! I’ve got enough. I’m just retired from competition shooting until this is over.

No such thing as enough with respect to ammo.

Yea. I am bummed. I normally shoot 5 to 6 competitions a month. I still have a few that I can use 22lr if need be. That’s still available. .223 and 9mm prices are no longer justifiable for that though.

This can not be emphasized enough. I'm glad I did what I did during the obama years. Now every member in my family has a stash one could be envious of.

Time to buy ammo was last year

Amen!

5.56 x 45 ammo is $0.60 a round in bulk (1000 rounds) today. In April, it was $0.35 a round. A year ago, it was $0.23 a round.

If you can find 7.62 x 51 ammo, it is currently $1.40 a round, in lots of 200. In April, you could buy 1000 rounds for $0.65 a round, and a year ago, it was $0.40 a round.

.45 ACP JHP is currently $0.92 a round. a year ago, it was $0.47 a round.

9mm JHP is currently $0.98 a round, a year ago it was $0.55 a round.

I track bulk ammunition prices the same way I track the prices of all my portfolios. The only difference is I Buy Low, and Never Sell.

Yes it was. This was my best friends remarkable husband. We miss him still to this day. What a man he was... and the love they shared was evident to all who knew them.

I thought it was wonderful how he distributed his collection to the hands of those he wanted in person while he could do so....and then reveal in his will the vast number he had somehow managed to conceal throughout his home. This was a man who thought ahead wisely!

Yea, Georgia. It’s hit or miss. We have some sanity but we have a the media re-doubling efforts to convince us that we are all stupid hicks.

Good point worth considering. We may have already become de-facto targets for some flavor of gimme’ dat’s who might mark a typical suburban/rural residence as a future one stop gun shop.

If we are observed in our neighborhoods as being a typical middle class conservative hunting/fishing, outdoor recreation loving family, we should be aware that we may already be on some crazies fantasy SHTF event “list”. Crack heads rarely plan ahead so their self justification plan is to just take what they need from those they dislike and from those they consider weak. Weakness comes in many forms.

So don’t share digital photos of all your stuff with all your friends on social media unless you strip all the meta data first. Don’t make it too easy for them by giving them your safe’s GPS location. Yes that info is in the photo metadata. Check it your self on any digital photo.

Considering the above, plan accordingly, keep your head on a swivel, watch each others six.

I have installed six fixed and 2 remote controllable PTZ elevated cameras and a network DVR to monitor the outside perimeters 24/7 when home and away via phone app.

Rottweiler’s are a great force multiplier!
