How could Iran retaliate for Natanz explosion? - analysis
Jerusalem Post ^ | July 7, 2020 | Seth J. Frantzman

[Tehran] is in a difficult position because it labeled the explosion an accident, but it is now facing a deluge of foreign media reports seeking to conclude that the explosion was perpetrated by a state or group.

This is what Iran's regime is reading: Major media from The New York Times to The Washington Post and local media such as Kuwait's Al-Jarida have all sought to assert that Israel was involved in the mysterious July 2 explosion at a warehouse in the Natanz nuclear enrichment facility... [t]hat could set back the program for months or a year.

Iran, however, is at a crossroads in other ways. It has sent tankers to Venezuela to boost gas trade. It's supporters in Iraq may have gunned down a well-known local commentator named Husham al-Hashimi. Iran is also benefiting from a UN expert opinion that deemed the US killing of IRGC Quds Force head Qasem Soleimani an 'unlawful' killing. The Islamic Republic has also triggered a dispute mechanism regarding the 2015 Iran deal.

That means Iran must weigh any response to the Natanz explosion against military and political fallout...

I was already in. I remember that Sunday in November, 1979. I was with some relatives watching the New England Patriots play the Buffalo Bills. I got up and excused myself when they broke into the news for the Hostage news.

“Where you going?” My sister asked.

“I said, “Back to the base. We’re at war.”

I drove the several hours back to Otis AFB and... No one was there... Well, except the normal weekend guys and alerts crews I went to the command post. They told they had no orders.

Jimmy Carter!

GWB got us into Afghanistan and our finest cleaned the clocks of the Taliban in a relatively few months. That would have been a great time to leave. The only reason to stick around would be to liquidate the tribes that hosted the Taliban hideouts, then leave.
Taking care of Saddam took a very short time indeed. After he was turned over to the fat mullah for hanging, we should have been showing them taillights, but helping the Kurds carve out an independent state as the price for our withdrawal.
When the Iranians destabilized Yemen, we should have wiped their Houthi allies off the face of the Earth, no cameras, no embedded root weevils, get it done and get out. Then obliterate the Iranian presence throughout the Horn.
Sometime in the past day or so someone referred to GWB as the smirking chimp -- I find that a perfect description. I guess my views have evolved.

Do you think so?

I believe we need to make a VERY STRONG statement that we’re not their patsies. We pay the bills, and faggoty Euro-pee-uns do not call the shots.

The fact is that now some French or German speaking cuck is given aid and comfort to the enemy over a guy who killed thousands and didn’t have ONE SINGLE DIPLOMAT complain.

They do crap like this because they know we won’t do much.

Well Trump is now in charge, thanks God!

Y'know, it's just possible that Israel had nothing to do with this...

My pleasure. I'd dig up the links to the earlier topics, but I'm basically too lazy. :^) I'm struggling between wanting to lose weight and wanting to go out to eat.

Might be smarter to worry about how to avoid the next one.

As they drop off of "accident" "natural causes" "food poisoning", they'll get the idea. Occasionally when one of them meet their control for the payoff, a team goes in and pops 'em both, and leaves the mess for the police to find.

I really think I will go have something that won’t help cumulatively kill me, like maybe a chicken caesar salad...

I like it.

Let me re-phrase:

America has Mo-town

Israel has Mo-ssad

Iran has Mo-hammed. ( Courtesy SunkenCiv)

Was the facility acknowledged as a nuclear production site?
Had UN inspectors examined the facility?
It has been reported that missile propellant was made there. What was the peaceful purpose for this?
Radioactivity was detected in the air from the explosion. Was it known that nuclear materials were manufactured and stored there?
Iran can't complain too loudly about its destruction, since they weren't supposed to be doing this anyway by international treaty.
