Police are investigating an act of vandalism, after a statue of Frederick Douglass was removed from its base at Maplewood Park during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Leaders from Re-energize the legacy of Frederick Douglass are shocked a monument they worked so hard on will have to be replaced. “This is all that is left at this particularly moment of a monument that we put so much work and thought and love and care into,” said Carvin Eison, Project director, re-energize the legacy of Frederick Douglass, Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Commemoration.

How sad, whoever did this. Douglass was a good man.

Of course they tore down Frederick Douglass’s statue. He was a Black Republican, he loved America, and he supported President Lincoln.

Yep they should change their name to LBLM. Liberal Black Lives Matter.

‘Everybody has asked the question ... “What shall we do with the Negro?” I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are worm-eaten at their core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! I am not for tying them or fastening them on the tree in any way, except by nature’s plan, and if they will not stay there, let them fall. And if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone!’ Frederick Douglass

There may not have been any racist intent here at all. In 2018, two college students were arrested for severe damage to one of the many downtown Douglass statues. They maintained they were drunk when they vandalized the statue, while one witness claimed he heard racial slurs before the crime.

“This is all that is left...of a monument that we put so much work...into,”

Pity more people are not awakening to the reality of this lawlessness. This snowball started at the top of the mountain fifty years ago. It's now grown so big it threatens all of civilization.

The animals who are running wild in the streets are going to destroy everything. Nobody is safe, therefore everybody needs to get on the side of law and order. Give cops the order: start cracking skulls. Otherwise, we're finished as a nation and as a culture.

Minister Douglass (as they called Ambassadors in those days, having received the appointment to Haiti in his twilight years by President Benjamin Harrison) would’ve opposed the welfare state policies of the Demonrat party with every fiber of his being. He would’ve rightly recognized the attempts to make slaves of them again, and that it would’ve damaged the family just as much as the actual institution of bondage did. He would be reviled by and disgusted at BLM/Auntie-FA and these other race hustlers and charlatans and anti-Christian Stalinazi monsters.

IIRC, Rochester and not so lovely Mayor Warren put Douglas statues all over the place in the City.

The worst thing they did was change the picture on the Carrosel at Sea Breeze....there was a picture of two cute little black kids...it was adorable. Said it was derogatory. Ridiculous.

The black group in charge had it removed and replaced with a Black Panther. Bless Mayor Not so Lovely for making things worse.

Go back in the History Books. Douglas located here because a white man had paved the way.

Indeed.

I have read “Up From Slavery” a few times, and it is regrettable that many in the black community chose to follow the path laid out by W.E.B. Dubois instead of the road suggested by Booker T. Washington.

I have always felt that W.E.B. Dubois had more in common with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and Booker T. Washington had more in common with Dr. Thomas Sowell and Justice Clarence Thomas.

Both ways? No conservative would attack Frederick Douglass’ statue. Idiot kids drunk on the current vandalism spree would be one explanation. Maybe the likeliest one. Of course, Douglass did shake Abraham Lincoln’s hand on more than one occasion. He did raise troops for the Union during the Civil War. He did deliver the dedicatory speech for the Emancipation Memorial. He understood racial oppression, but he also understood struggle, sacrifice, redemption and the hard-won progress of the nation to a better future. There are many things about Douglass that a leftist would find hateful. But I’d still bet on idiot kids.

because none of those idiots have any idea who Frederick Douglass was.

Or Emancipation Day.

Or Juneteenth, until the past couple of weeks.
