A trending online petition is calling for a statue of Christopher Columbus in Cleveland, Ohio, to be replaced with a figure honoring the life of Chef Boyardee.

The recent Change.org appeal is urging Cleveland City Council to remove the statue of the controversial explorer located in Tony Brush Park, in the Little Italy neighborhood, and erect a statue of Ettore (Hector) Boiardi in its place. The pitch has since received over 2,600 signatures.

Boirardi emigrated from Italy at age 16, later moving to Cleveland and opening a restaurant, WKYC reports. His sauce was so popular that he began bottling it for sale, which grew to become the Chef Boyardee brand of pasta and sauces today.

The most informative thing about this article was finding out Chef Boyardee (Boiradi) was a real person.

Otherwise it's quite humorous.

Personally I think the "That's a spicy meatball" buy from the Pepto-Bismol commercials should be in the running. /s

Yes, his first name was Hector. And he had an awesome little restaurant, Chef Hector's, tucked away off E.9th street, down a little alley just south of Euclid Ave., with the very best Italian food ever.

Any Clevelanders remember that?

Dogs never seem to get a statue...couldn’t it just be Lassie (minus that Timmy character)?

Like I said ... Leave the existing statues alone. Let these radicals pay for and erect their own statues (that no one will ever visit).

What I remember was how lousy the bottled sauce was. I can only imagine that what he made in his own restaurant was far superior to that.

"My Hero, My Friend,” a tribute to military working dogs, sculptor Susan Norris. From: Military Times, March, 2020

They can replace ALL statues with ones honoring dogs, as far as I'm concerned. But then the 'cat people' would be tearing them down. ;)
