Fauci predicts 100,000 new COVID-19 cases per day if US can't control outbreaks

Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, warned members of Congress on Monday that the U.S. could reach 100,000 new COVID-19 cases per day if the country does not get a handle on the pandemic.

Speaking before the Senate health committee, Fauci said the country is heading in the “wrong direction as the average number of daily cases continues to go up.

“We’re going in the wrong direction if you look at the curves of the new cases,” said Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “We need to do something about that and we need to do it very quickly.”

The U.S. is now recording 40,000 new cases per day, surpassing previous records set in April when New York was the epicenter of the outbreak.

Now outbreaks in Texas, Arizona, Florida and California account for 50 percent of new infections in the U.S.

Fauci stressed that the U.S. can’t just focus on those four states because outbreaks there "puts the entire country at risk."

Fauci declined to estimate potential COVID-19 deaths when pressed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), but said the situation is “going to be very disturbing, I will guarantee you that because when you have an outbreak in one part of the country, even though in other parts of the country they're doing well, they are vulnerable.”

Worldometer showed California with the highest death rate yesterday (41). New York only had 12.

I disagree widespread testing is causing more cases. I believe the testing is identifying more cases. Also, public health officials in Florida and Texas have stated the lack of social distancing, lack of hand washing, touching the face and lack of wearing mask indoors by mainly the younger population has caused the infection rate to rise. There is no disputing that with the health officials.

I do agree with you that deaths rates have gone down thanks to a number of things we are doing well. I hope they stay down through this spike.

Both my wife and I are in our early sixties.....

We are not overly concerned.....

This isn’t 4 months ago when the experts had no idea what they were up against.....

Yes, some people will die if they get it, no different then the flu... A slightly higher mortality rate then regular flu but not unreasonable...

Medical professionals now can identify and treat the virus more effectively.

Let the herd mortality kick in>..

And, of course, the new CDC definition is helping that "boost": if one person tests positive, the 15 people closest to him will be considered "infected" too. Without any testing of those people. Gotta keep people focused on the numbers of "infected", not the dying.

A post I saw at another site: the headline said 88 people got sick from being together in a bar, but the report said 88 people tested positive, a far cry from being sick ...

Here’s the negative impact that Fauci is having: “17 states are pausing reopening plans as COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations surge”

States that are pausing the full reopening of their economies: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

I disagree. Public health has learned from this disease (since the Chinese didn’t help). There are a number of steps we can and need to take. Wash and disinfect hands, don’t touch your face, keep away from people of you can and wear a face mask, not to protect you but to protect others incase you are sick. If we do these simple steps we can keep our economy going and opening more.

It doesn’t say much for the other infectious disease experts if Fauci is the top one, does it? Maybe he really ISN’T the top infectious disease expert. Maybe he’s been Peter principled to the top spot. It might be time for this fraudster to retire.

My name is not Karen. I want everyone to get back to work and to worship. These simple steps get us there. Even the GOP leadership in the house and Senate gets it.

I can see you freaking out about not being allowed to work. That makes sense. But, these steps are far from that.

Cases are not the same as deaths.

Deaths are 1 in 30,000.

To compare, suicide deaths are 1 in 300.

-- Wash and disinfect hands: True
-- Don't touch your face: True
-- Keep away from people if you can: True if they're symptomatic; False otherwise
-- Wear a face mask, not to protect you but to protect others: Demonstrably false and potentially dangerous to the snot rag wearer

And what is wrong with 100,000 new cases per day among the ‘young and restless’.

How else will we develop herd immunity?

Fauci’s hidden agenda is to keep ‘stay at home’ mandates in place for young and healthy people so the China virus continues at a lower level until some sort of vaccine is introduced.

Then Fauci will hammering us to get vaccinated.
