BLM protests have not led to a spike in coronavirus cases: study

lack Lives Matter protests haven’t seen coronavirus cases surge in cities since the massive demonstrations began, a study says.

The new research, which was published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, found no evidence that coronavirus cases jumped in 315 cities in the weeks following the first protests.

Researchers determined that protests may have been offset by an increase in social distancing among those who decided not to march.

Using cellphone data, the study determined that more people opted to stay home “perhaps due to fear of violence from police clashes or general unrest.”

Why didn't the protesters bring the virus home to those they live with if the virus is so contagious? Surely some of the protesters had the virus and passed it to other protesters because the virus is so, so contagious.

Other studies have said otherwise, and Newsweek actually covered it: https://www.newsweek.com/houston-protesters-begin-fall-ill-coronavirus-after-marching-george-floyd-1511066

But may be the cause of future spike in lead poisoning.

Well, isn’t that convenient. As if this somehow justifies the damage being done.

If you're implying the right will start shooting to take back the country, guess again.

This makes sense. 95% of the protestors are 25. If they catch it they usually don’t know it, and it doesn’t hit most of them as hard as older people get hit.

In Colorado there have been about 1665 total deaths as of yesterday. 13 of those deaths are people 29 or under.

the CDC has reported that the covid 19 virus cannot live long enough on surfaces to be transmitted. therefore, the protesters protected themselves by bringing home household items, such as large screen tvs, refrigerators, jewelry, thus protecting themselves from infection.

“Using cellphone data, the study determined that more people opted to stay home ‘perhaps due to fear of violence from police clashes or general unrest.’”

So, it’s just PAID arsonists, murderers & rapists then, causing all this havoc?

Good to know!

As if anything will be done about it on the State level. They’re not arresting ANYONE in the Wisconsin hot spots, as far as I can find.

Oh, wait - they did make an arrest last night, and then all Hell broke loose - AGAIN!

Given how BLM “influences” people...it’s hard to know what is true regarding them.

Either “protesting” is

a) a healthy activity, so social contact guidelines should be adjusted, or

b) not enough time has gone by to see if it caused an increase in infections or

c) if they don’t pick up in the next week or two, the social contact distancing guidelines are clearly unnecessary.

Meanwhile, in Oregon, only Whites need wear masks. Blacks are exempt from this requirement, but if as a consequence they exhibit increased infection rates, it’s because of systemic racism. Win-win?

I agree with that statement

It is hard to get a group of responsible adults with families and careers to take arms against a bunch of college aged fools with nothing to lose and backing of the democrats governors/DAs/Mayors etc and lose everything you have plus sitting in a cage for the rest of your life.

That is hard sacrifice to make

NJ had a giant increase of people aged 19 - 30, the local radio program was blaming it on the rioter/looters, while the media was blaming it on the bars

So why would the Bureau of Econ Research even give a damn whether BLM protests increased cases of Yahoo Flu?

Amazing how much crap flies around the media.... totally worthless info meant to indoctrinate the low info voter.

I’ve been on this forum for almost 20 years, and look what’s happened to the country in that time. Where’s the push-back from the right? Where’s the punishment? Hell, conservatives (in general) couldn’t continue to punish the NFL and ended up returning to the damn sport last season.

Blacks were supposed to get this disproportionately, but looks like Fauci changed the rules. Now it’s probably Trump rally supporters.
