White House eyeing another round of direct payments to Americans, Kevin Hassett says
The Washington Times ^ | Sunday, May 24, 2020 | David Sherfinski

White House senior adviser Kevin Hassett on Sunday said the Trump administration is eyeing another round of direct payments to Americans in the next coronavirus-related legislative package, though he said the economy is getting to the point where they might be able to move on to other things.

He called the stimulus checks of up to $1,200 for millions of Americans an “enormously successful part” of federal legislation that Congress passed in recent weeks in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I think depending on the state of the economy it’s something that I guess we’d consider,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“But right now it looks like the economy’s picking up at a very rapid rate, in which case we could potentially move on to other things that the president has mentioned like the payroll tax cut and potentially even [a] capital gains holiday,” Mr. Hassett said.

Congress is eyeing tweaks to a popular small business lending program for the next round of coronavirus legislation.

Asked about more money for states and localities, which has been a key Democratic demand, Mr. Hassett said there’s already been significant money allocated for that purpose.

“I think that a lot of the requests for state and local bailouts that you’re seeing out there up on the Hill are radically, radically more money than the expected shortfall for the year,” he said. “We’re analyzing the numbers right now and the requests are kind of absurd.”

He said a lot of Republicans are also concerned that the plussed-up unemployment benefits in the $2.2 trillion package that passed in March have made it more...

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Sure, that’s some of what the Fed was about. But with both the Fed and the massive bailouts in 2008/9 and 2020, a safe question is “Cui bono?” And look at the long-term interest rates for US debt right now. We’re pretty much the only game in town as a haven, so able to sell debt cheaply.

The $1200 wasn’t about residential mortgage payments, as those who need it got forbearance with an extension tacked on to the end of the mortgage in most cases. It was buying, on the cheap, acquiescence for the trillions to largely large businesses.

Oh, and while we’re at it, sure big commercial landlords take a hit when their national chain tenants stiff them for a few months, but commercial RE is a long-term play and returns on that are factored in with rates for both rent and ROI. Take a look at commercial RE in NYC in both 2001 and 2008. They’ve essentially got another Dinkins in De Blasio, so it may take a little longer for NYC specifically at this point and resistance to taking public transport into an office will probably linger, but most such losses are temporary paper losses that will be recouped.

When we end the forever wars I’ll start believing that the “fiscal conservatives” are sincere. As long as we have enough money ( or rather, can keep borrowing from China) for wars in the Middle East - with no conservatives objecting - don’t talk to me about how we “can’t afford” to help unemployed Americans

I’ll take your evasion of my question as proof that you’re looking for continuous monthly handouts. You’re welcome to that position but it’s a loser for the GOP. So, if Trump keeps going back to the well, please don’t whine when Biden wins in November. Republicans can’t outspend Democrats. They’ll win every time on that issue.

Tell me again how Trump is a Conservative.

Why don't you let the liberals who hate his guts tell you?

I didn't qualify for the last direct payment due to making too much income but I don't begrudge those who got it. They probably needed the help.

Anyway, since pretty much being forced to work at home (NY State) since mid-March, I've saved many times more than that $1,200. Enough money where I'm getting ready to purchase a new car next week with cash.

I'll do what I can to help the economy.

“You are a spoiled child. Don’t get everything and you run off crying. Grow up!”

Trump being a traitor to the American people by preferring Indians to Americans is a pretty big not getting everything. He lied and broke his 2016 campaign promises. He traded the American middle class for some fucking HCQ in a deal with Modi in exchange for the continuation of the Indian jobs H1B program. Hell, he even dropped his objections to the illegal Obama-era H4EAD program which is 96% dominated by Indians.

What the hell are Americans supposed to do when they can’t even buy a god-damned job in their own 30-year career field as it’s now completely and totally dominated by Indians. Shovel shit and be homeless?

They seemed to do fine the last 30 years. If they are competent they’ll be fine.

“They seemed to do fine the last 30 years. If they are competent they’ll be fine.”

You know absolutely nothing about the IT/tech/ software engineering field, it seems. Tens of thousands of articles written in the past 30 years documenting millions of American job losses to Indians. But that’s fine with you as assume these millions of Americans are incompetent.

IBM and Uber just this week alone announced the replacement of over 15,000 Americans with Indian H1Bs. Tennessee Valley Authority last week announced it was firing it’s American staff and replacing them with Indian H1Bs. Guess all those Americans are incompetent as well, according to your standards.

I could care less. All I know is that Trump MUST be reelected or you will have bigger problems then worrying about the 6-figure salaries of IT people.

“I could care less.”

You don’t care that millions of Americans lost their jobs to these Indian H1B scab workers? You don’t care that most white-collar workers have been already been replaced or are in danger of being replaced by these scabs? You don’t care that the American middle class is being decimated by this foreign trash, and that America lost entire sectors to foreigners?

Oh, I forgot, you have yours, right? F*ck everyone else?

No a very big Trump supporter, I guess if you don’t believe in Buy American, Hire American.

Guess your right. Good grief. Let go of the bone. You are too psychologically invested in this very small issue. We have bigger issues ahead. You’ll be fine.

If millions of unemployed people are cut loose with no means of support, Biden will win as handily as FDR in 1932.

Millions of Americans losing their jobs to foriegner scum is not a very small issue.

Let Biden and thd Democrats get a hold of this issue. Trump making a deal with Indian PM Modi for some fucking HCQ at only the cost of the American middle class - signing over IT/tech, finance, administrative, insurance and medical jobs to India, and its slam dunk for Biden.

Doesn’t look good that 56 million aggregate Americans are unemployed and Trump expressedly lets foriegners in to take more American jobs. Maybe Trump should dump Pence and choose Harris as his VP. They both fight for the same thing.

As far as I’m concerned it’s the people’s responsibility to tell their government to kiss their asses.

No bites on 80 months high prices, with the public schools swimming in property tax scamming.
Time for more, but not to government.

I use to think we might elect politicians one day that would realize what the debt could do to us. I have held that thought for 30 years, and hoped for it that last 10. No one cares anymore, just speed up the printing press and churn out more $100 bills. I guess I am finally seeing the truth; they don’t care what it does to us just as long as they keep their positions of power. Well, to hell with wanting it to stop. Print all you can, give me all they want. I will spend it on more precious metals(copper, brass, lead, and silver), clothes and food that it going to be needed when is all falls apart. Let those who chose to “depend” on the “gubmint” to take care of them find out what happens when it falls. Maybe we will get the change to hang of the politicians and start all over.
