Neurosurgeon Says Face Masks Pose Serious Risk to Healthy People
PJ Media ^ | May 14, 2020 | Megan Fox

Every Karen on Facebook is shaming her neighbors for not wearing a face mask. We are being told by governors that if we don’t wear masks we are selfish, horrible human beings with no souls who want Grandma to die a horrible death. Police are tackling people who don’t wear face masks properly in the subway. Grocery stores are throwing maskless people out and denying them service.

But now, there’s another doctor weighing in—besides Dr. Fauci, bonafide sex god and ruler of us all, who also said face masks are largely security theater and of no use to the healthy. Dr. Russell Blaylock, a neurosurgeon, has written an editorial saying that “masks pose serious risks to the healthy.”

Karen is slang for suburban white women who feels entitled or is demanding beyond reason.

"I want to speak to the manager" is commonly associated in Karen memes.

It came from reedit.

This neurosurgeon is an anti-vaxxer. He has a long history of making controversial claims often without scientific studies to back them up.

You can google his name with the word Quack at the end of it to see some of the controversy.

He is absolutely wrong when he says there are no studies saying masks work. There is one in Nature Magazine in April that says masks are effective for Coronavirus.

Given that many health care workers wear masks sometimes for long stretches his claims of masks doing harm would seem to be greatly exaggerated if not baseless.

Most people would not have to wear a mask for hours on end. You wear one when you go into a grocery store or other public place.

Got it, Karen.

The required medical questionnaire is Appendix C to that rule.

Also, while “respirator” is not defined, the use of the term “respirator” in the definition of “filtering facepiece (dust mask)” makes it clear that even cloth masks are respirators. Also, 1910.134(c)(2)(ii) excepts from the respiratory protection plan requirement only employees “ whose only use of respirators involves the voluntary use of filtering facepieces (dust masks).” Employees required time wear filtering facepieces must be covered by a respiratory control plan, which includes medical evaluation. So basically every employer requiring employees to wear masks without complying with the provisions of 1910.134 is committing an OSHA violation.

The idea is you are protecting other people by not launching large numbers of virus into the air when you don’t know if you’re infected

Except there are jurisdictions around the country recommending or even mandating the wearing of masks at all times when outside the home. The county judge in Harris County, Texas made failure to wear a mask anywhere outside the home a crime punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine, until she was overruled by the governor.

This article mentions people who are infected with Covid19 rebreathing the virus and increasing their viral load, potentially becoming sicker.

Better that than them infecting other people. You have to lack a sense of common good, of civic virtue, to think, well, at least I kept my viral load low, it doesn’t matter what chain of infection I started.

Also mentioned, people with cancer. Not healthy people.

Also mentioned, hypoxia and headaches. I go double masked, fabric over N95, up to 14 hours a day at work. I am headache prone, and I don’t have great aerobic capacity. Headaches aren’t any worse, occasionally I feel a bit winded. I’ll check my oxygen saturation at the end of shift, but I seriously doubt my sats are lower by more than a point off baseline.

Okay well, she was overruled by a governor.

It was a bad ruling.

Claims that vaxxers often find controversial.

I think the valve masks will stop most droplets but not aerosol. In that sense, they are as good as most fabric or surgical masks.

The entire continent of Asia has been wearing facemasks, for months.

They work.

I simply cannot wear one for more than a couple of minutes, my exhaled breath makes my face so hot I can’t stand it and my blood oxygen level drops rapidly. I have pulmonary fibrosis and have to use a portable oxygen concentrator. Wearing a mask is out of the question, I mostly stay home now anyway but when I have to go to see a doctor I don’t wear a mask.

It also says that people get both a reduction in blood oxygen and an elevated blood CO2 with these masks. The result of that is an impaired immunity system, which leads to a greater vulnerability, not just to the coronavirus, but to other infections as well.

They are also rebreathing their own viruses, increasing their own viral load.

No good deed....(you know the rest)

It’s like a border wall with Mexico. It won’t prevent contamination all of the time, but it will prevent contamination much of the time.

” The mask could make you sicker. It could also create a “deadly cytokine storm” in some.

There is another danger to wearing these masks on a daily basis, especially if worn for several hours. When a person is infected with a respiratory virus, they will expel some of the virus with each breath.

If they are wearing a mask, especially an N95 mask or other tightly fitting mask, they will be constantly rebreathing the viruses, raising the concentration of the virus in the lungs and the nasal passages. We know that people who have the worst reactions to the coronavirus have the highest concentrations of the virus early on. And this leads to the deadly cytokine storm in a selected number.”

Exactly what Dr. Judy Mikovits said could happen also.

You need medical clearance to be fitted for an N95 respirator at work. I never heard of such a requirement for surgical masks.

So when elderly people with lung problems pass out and hit their head while wearing a mask, is that classified as a Covid related death?

Yes, I understand that. And that's why I wore my mask long-term today.

But if someone else is wearing an ill-fitting mask, or hasn't been diligent in washing/sanitizing their hands, and is in my vicinity, sneezing, coughing, touching, etc. ... my pretty little triple-layer mask isn't gonna help me much at all.
