The attention should be focused on killing and treating the virus and not in making people flee from the virus and each other.
We are still quite primitive but if the entire world’s scientists focus on the problem and not the various workarounds then it can be probably be dealt with.
There was a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode in its first season where the government took care of everyone, no one seemed to work, had loads of free-tine but where if an arbitrary law was broken, the only penalty was death—strictly enforced.
I can’t remember the name of the episode, but the episode and the handle we gave it descrned the situation we’re currently in: The Planet of the Jogging Nazis.

The only place where I see the word “terrified” is with the flubros here. You guys read a story—not this one per se—and YOU apply the tone and the “hysteria.” If you find the first sentence disagreeable, you take a step back and scream “WITCH!”
If you spent ten seconds and let your mind creep open just a bit...you would realize the only folks running around all excited are those who don’t really understand how any of this works.

The Dems aren’t terrified of the virus, they just want the economy shut down as long as possible because (they think) it will hurt DJT’s re-election chances.

I don’t doubt that what you say is true, but I’ve seen real fear coming from some people.
Science moves at a glacial pace. That said, many scientists are working on the virus, on cures, on diagnostics, etc. We're not in some science fiction show where the science officer and a couple of lab techs bravely work around the clock and come up with a solution within 48 hours, we're in the real world.
The only way right now to beat Covid-19 is to apply the knowledge of disease transmission that we have developed over hundreds of years. We can't wait around for drugs or vaccines.

IIRC, that was the episode where the indigenous people wanted to execute Wesley. Ah, what a missed opportunity.
Natural products can cure a lot of things.
Successfully rescuing Wesley was a bad ending for an otherwise good episode.
