Greatest Generation, meet the latest generations. The United States is in the grips of a global pandemic unlike anything ever experienced by baby boomers, Gen Xers, millennials, Gen Z, or whatever you prefer to call the descendants of the G.I. Joes and Rosie the Riveters who fought, each in their own way, to save democracy and preserve freedom.

“Would not have allowed a Governor to tell them to shut down their business.”
Exactly.
Back in their day, people used to hang signs:
“Revenuers (gov officials) will be shot.”
We’re not worthy of tying that generations shoelaces.
Hong Kong Flu estimated to kill 100,000 in 68-69. Obviously a bigger pop now. That is the comparison, not WW2. It’s insulting. Politicians want it as an excuse to spend money without scrutiny.

“The one comparison you can make if this c- doesnt end soon, you will find more and more store shelves empty because the food chain is beginning to be affected. So, be forewarned.”
Measures have been taken to protect the food chain.

Truckers, distributors, farmers, markets.
Every dictatorship co-opts the heroics and symbols of the old order when they are useful as propaganda.
A classic example of this is American pre-war nazis having that rally with HUGE posters of George Washington.
Another is the American communists who joined in the Spanish Civil war calling themselves “The Abraham Lincoln Brigade”.
So of course today’s statist, central planning, China-loving, Constitution-hating, A-holes want to invoke WWII, and all that. It speaks to the weakness of truth of their arguments today.
A close friend’s grandfather spent 4 years in a Japanese POW camp after the fall of the Philippines. He was one of the higher-ranking officers in the camp, and testified at war crimes trials for some of the Japanese officers involved in administering the POW camps.
Friend has been posting some excerpt from his grandfathers diary to the people freaking out over how bad quarantine / shelter in place is. No, people, you don’t have it that bad.
Note that this is a completely separate issue from whether shelter in place is appropriate.
If weve faced larger pandemics than China virus in the time frame 1945-2018, clearly it is not on par with World War II.
I dont remember the part of WWII where people sat at home collecting welfare and stopped going to work. and let the government shower them with money from a helicopter.
Please...
Its been a one month long business shutdown, not four years of austerity. Is this coming from people who received participation trophies?
NO comparison.
In an alternate universe where there is comparison,
after Pearl harbour, Dr. Jauxi praises the Japanese
and demands all Americans must remain in their
homes, hiding, while the Japanese use fire lanterns
to bring novel-Polio to every city. For months,
Americans HIDE, while the novel-Polio virus infects
city after city. Three months later, 50K dead,
and 40 million with damaged CNS/immune systems.
Dr. Jauxi then directs the President to inject
every American with Japanese-Nazi potions to
“protect”. Otherwise, they must remain in their
homes FOREVER.
Comparing our COVID-19 response to World War II? LOL. Good heavens — please stop this pathetic nonsense.
The government employees in my town are patting themselves on the back big time. They saved us all.
Completely different. The covid debacle started a lie. Two major math errors in modeling.
“...we have sacrificed our liberty to preserve lives.
In theory that was true to sone degree. The idea was to not let the hospital’s be overwhelmed.
But that never even came close to happening.
Did they? Living through this time has me starting to question everything I've ever been taught.
I wish I could stop it. This thread might make a dent in the nonsense.
US pop. 330,000,000
Avg. annual deaths 3,000,000
WuFlu so far 56,000
What is it ok to die for any reason except Corona?
“Greatest Generation, meet the latest generations..”
Greatest Generation, meet the piss-poorest generations.
I think of Normandy. They knew that the cost would be enormous. They didnt have any unacceptable level of deaths, it was overwhelm with sheer numbers of people to absorb bullets and explosions figuring if half of them made it it would be a victory. In my opinion it was a stupid waste that might have been avoided. But they didnt chicken out knowing that a death rate in excess of 50% was possible. We are chickening out over .05 %. What a bunch of (insert politically incorrect descriptor) we are. We have no right to the comparison.
Indeed!
Gates has pushed this pandemic nonsense for years. This is just the excuse for control.
