Fauci did not answer the question, no doubt with purpose. The press rushed on rather clumsily, just like it did with the question about the small biz owner and his app for $100k emergency loan.
Trump prudently wants to fight this one battle at a time. The form of the battle and perhaps its intensity depends on whether China lives up to its $B deal benefitting U.S. farmers.

Earlier reporting by CBC on July 14th (see below) stated Dr. Xiangguo Qiu and her husband and an unknown number of students were escorted out of the Canadian Level 4 lab. The Canadian government had been investigating them for months and had evidence there was removal of unauthorized material from Winnipeg to China. From the little information allowed to be publicly released it seems there was intellectual property or technology leakage. However, the important aspect of this is that this group was involved in setting up the Level 4 lab in Wuhan.

The question was if the virus ESCAPED from a Wuhan lab. Fauci answered that it wasn’t CREATED in a Wuhan lab. Dr. Fauci used a typical “strawman” deflection. Dr. Fauci is a skilled dissembler and his allies in the media will further that narrative.

I watched the press conference yesterday which included the question and answer by Dr. Fauci. My view is that the question asked if the Wuhan lab INTENTIONALLY CREATED the virus as a biologic weapon. It did not concern the issue of accidental release. Dr. Fauci’s answer was that a recently released paper offered evidence that the virus was naturally occurring. He seemed to accept that the virus was accidently released.
In my view these hair-on-fire reports that Fauci is coddling the lab are Fake News.
