How China muzzled its Bat Woman: Beijing authorities hushed up the findings of a scientist who unlocked the genetic make-up of the coronavirus within days of the outbreak

A Chinese scientist who is the one of the world's leading experts on coronaviruses was 'muzzled' after unravelling the genetic composition of the new disease, which is crucial for developing diagnostic tests and vaccines. The revelation will fuel fresh concerns over China's cover-up of the pandemic after it erupted in the city of Wuhan. Critics argue that Communist Party chiefs frustrated efforts to contain the outbreak before it exploded around the world. At the centre of the new claims is Shi Zhengli, known as China's 'Bat Woman' after years spent on difficult virus-hunting expeditions in dank caves that have led to a series of important scientific discoveries. The virologist was called back to her highsecurity laboratory in Wuhan at the end of last year after a mysterious new respiratory condition in the city was identified as a novel coronavirus – and within three days she completed its gene sequencing.

“Why did people allowed the grant to go overseas from UNC ?”

Science is broken, to a large extent, in America. This is multifactorial, but is factual, and has some of the same causes as those that have led to the exportation of so many jobs to China.

In the late 80s/early 90s a lot of American labs hired post-docs from China - in part because they could be paid less than American post-docs, and thus grant dollars would go further. The Chinese government supported this, and would often pay part or all of the Chinese post-docs/fellows salary. A fair number of these post-docs would be supported for green cards, and stayed in the US - competing for US funding and starting their own labs.

This started a trend that has now led to what some have called a Chinese mafia within American science - giving high scores to the grants of fellow Chinese researchers, and generally working communally to help support researchers from China. Further, many Chinese researchers with labs in the US also have labs in China, supported by the Chinese government. Even further, the labs in America run by researchers originally from China hire a lot of Chinese post-docs - again, supported by China. So, it’s self-perpetuating.

The consequence is that it becomes harder and harder for Americans to get research grants, and fewer American students choose a career in science (who wants to struggle to get grant money to pay your own salary, all the while working within an academic political cesspool that rivals anything you might encounter in business).

The other consequence of this is that researchers start overstating their data, and cherry picking data, in order to publish ‘hot’ papers and stay funded. The scientific truth is no longer the objective. Being a scientific ‘hotshot’, and amassing grant funding, positions/titles, and building you own academic empire is the objective.

Earlier this month, Tucker Carlson did a segment on the origin of the coronavirus. Carlson, who has been pretty aggressive in his coverage of the virus, pointed out a Chinese research paper (since pulled by the author) which claimed the virus could not have arisen at the Wuhan wet market because the horseshoe bats where the virus arose were not for sale at the market. In fact, the bats are not naturally found anywhere within 900 miles of the market. However, bats were being studied for viruses they carried in two labs including one just a few hundred meters from the market.

It may be only crackpot from the perspective of CV being an intentional, planned attack.

If you do a little background research on bio-terror weapons, I think you will find that grafting hybrid inter-species diseases isn't really that complicated. I mean, compared to developing a nuclear weapons program, it's beyond orders of magnitude easier bay a factor of 1000x. We're talking handfuls of people, some expensive lab equipment, and not much else vs creating an infrastructure like Hanford + Los Alamos.

If/when you reach the conclusion that creating bio-terror weapons is not especially difficult, you then may also realize that means: (a) everyone and their brother had/has already been performing the same exact experiments; and (b) while not especially difficult, the inherent dangers of a virus, bacterium, etc leaking out from the lab is extraordinarily high, therefore making these kinds of programs especially dangerous.

In this context, CV is very similar to Chernobyl. We have a 2nd rate power trying to play catch up with the most advanced nation on earth. But, because they lack so many necessary small details, the risk of catastrophic mistake remains high. And so through some royal fVckup, not entirely unexpected, the stupid idiots - essentially ignoring all warnings from other bio programs - kept on keeping on.

So, put yourself in the position of a global leader. First, you have to deal with the direct emergency at hand. But. you also have to be aware that the idiots might decide to simply allow the mistake to force their hand and initiate some kind of broader, strategic initiative. Therefore, you need to protect against that risk as well. Only after both threats have diminished can you then begin to address about what's going to happen going forward.

This is actually the easy part, because we already know what steps are going to taken, simply because they are so obvious: remove CCP influence from US media & academic institutions, we're going to re-home domestic production, and we'll militarize CDC to monitor if/when the CCP repeats the same mistake(s). A key component therefore of returning off-shored production will be to weaken/destroy the CCP, and perhaps reform the Chinese gov't to play more nicely with the world community.
