31% Can’t Pay the Rent: ‘It’s Only Going to Get Worse’
New York Times ^ | April 8, 2020 | By Conor Dougherty

First it was the waitress whose restaurant closed. Then the waiter, the bartender, the substitute teacher, the hairdresser, the tattoo artist and the Walgreens manager.

One after the other, the tenants called and emailed their landlord, Bruce Brunner, to say they were out of work and the rent was going to be late. A week after the bill was due, some two dozen of Mr. Brunner’s 130 tenants had lost their jobs or had their hours reduced. He’s working out payment plans and using security deposits as a stopgap while directing tenants to the emerging patchwork of local, state and federal assistance programs.

“Six weeks ago, you could name your price and you’d have multiple people applying,” said Mr. Brunner, who lives in Minneapolis, where he owns and manages 20 duplexes and triplexes across the city. “Now you’re deferring and working out payment plans, and it’s only going to get worse.”

We’re only at the very beginning of the coming economic devastation from this lockdown insanity. And it won’t be local. Hospitals are already locking their doors. Going out of business, FROM LACK of patients. Because of models. And POTUS believing Fauci and Birx, instead of going with his instincts.

They now have this tiger by its tail. How to let go, with being eaten? It will be up to the states. To say, “Screw it, we’re opening! To hell with Fauci! Give everyone HCQ, and get back to work!”

My dad was reduced to working 10 hours a day, 6 days a week in a cotton gin for 50¢ a day, (that's correct per day

Defer them by fiat? So screw the landlords and car dealers? I guess they are feudal lords.

Not all of us. My 401K is in conservative growth mechanisms. Slow and steady.

The money invested in youngest years grows the most.

I have long preached that to all 6 of my children (all adults now) The 3 boys seem to have listened to old dad more closely and I have high hopes for my youngest daughter age 21.

I wonder how many people are buying groceries and essentials on credit.

...................................................

Using credit cards, after all, the interest is only 29% or “it’s not real money”.

Here we go. The media will switch from “you’re responsible for all the crazy death numbers” to “look at all the people being evicted, you shut it all down for no reason”.

It’s the perfect “no win” situation for PDJT. The only “perfect” strategy falls on a knifes edge. A thin window to have all the right variables balanced perfectly, otherwise “he’s an idiot”.

Although there seem too be FReepers that don’t get this. The left wants cracks to form. Don’t fall for it.

It’s not that they can’t pay their rent. At the beginning of April there were a lot of reports of buying sprees going on at our local Costco. Lots of flat screens and other expensive items going out the door.

Here’s the smallest violin in the world playing for the rich.

Next time you need a job ask a poor person for work.

Dave Ramsey's book, "The Total Money Makeover" should be required reading for every American.

I wish I had read it sooner.

Fortunately I read it "in time".

Screw em anyway. Disney Execs are bitching about a 25% pay cut while tons of the $10/hr people working the parks are getting nothing. Usually it’s never been a ‘rich’ person that’s hired me anyway, just someone in middle management.

Beautiful said I wonder how many follow Dave Ramsey’s advice and regret it?

I used to listen to Ramsey....then I realized that he had many failures but his big win was preaching on the radio and selling books....nice gig if you can get it....

That’s why landlords don’t like to rent to working people - they could lose their job.

Section 8 is a guaranteed rent check.
