Hack the Crisis is back and its global
Estonia is one of the worlds global capitals of digital innovation. So it was no surprise when the countrys startup community swiftly sprang into action over two weeks ago to respond to the deadly COVID-19 outbreak. In organising an online hackathon: Hack the Crisis, Accelerate Estonia, Garage48 and Guaana inspired around 1100 participants from 20 countries to suggest solutions that could support Estonias economy grow stronger in the aftermath of the crisis. It also paved the way for other countries to lead their own online hackathons.
This momentum for accelerating impactful and innovative action in Estonia stems from the startup ecosystem and goes all the way up to government level. Evidenced by the fact that following the success of the Estonian event, the countrys President immediately called for a global hackathon. That Global Hack is going to run on 9-12 April.
In difficult times we have always two options: remain seated when the ground is burning or start searching for solutions.
I appeal to the international community to call you up to join our initiative and start working on finding and creating solutions, for the reason to minimise coronavirus socio-economic impact on our lives, said Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid.
She added: Coronavirus has a strong impact on our health and socio-economic environment. When the crisis shows our weak points out, its important that the public and private sector join their forces to start developing innovative ways to leave from the forced situation upright. Bringing together the brightest minds that are willing to be part of finding and creating the solutions, is the best start to building our future for the post-crisis period.
The Global Hack is a huge opportunity to generate solutions that can combat the immediate challenges, identify pathways for the new economic reality that emerges, and prevent future lockdowns.

Ping
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old farts life, it's worth it.
My buddy and I developed an opt-in social networking app that touches on covid, and the app stores refuse to publish it because they will only publish pandemic related apps from governments or established health organizations.
Im livid. I know people would use it and it would help them tremendously.
Can’t say I’m surprised. This is what censorship looks like.
Perhaps tiny Estonia would host it?
The US' ranking in this group of countries hasn't changed in the past few days. It's also worth noting that per this story out of NYC today, "The latest numbers reflect a one-day death toll of more than 800, but the city noted that the unusually high increase was due to reporting lags (emphasis added)." This means the jump 18% jump in deaths on Apr 7 effectively reflects a time-shifting of deaths that should have been in the April 6 totals. Thus, relative ranking can change due to reporting lags not just in the US but elsewhere; caveat emptor
As noted previously, the 'hands-off' countries like Sweden and the Netherlands are higher (which isn't a good thing) though the US is pretty close to Sweden which hasn't vaporized its service sector. Time will tell if their approach is prudent. And, as noted before, Spain AND the UK continue to look like hell on this adjusted basis. Finally, Europe is on avg about 8 holes, erm, 8 days ahead of the US.
As I said previously, I'd prefer to be lower in this bodies-on-the-cart analysis, but for now it is what it is. Pray for everyone.

ADD Alert!!!!!
a big chart with so many numbers!!!!!!
Are things getting better or worse???
Thanks doodlebob.
I could never focus on something like that but would like to know what’s going on.
Be leery of people bearing gifts.
The Left never lets a crisis pass without using it to their
advantage.
Whose image is this “fix” going to adopt? Capitalism’s?
Their goal of involving governments in this gives me
goosebumps.
Can’t say it’s bad. Can’t say I trust it at all either.
Once again, thanks for the update.
I’d suggest adding Mexico, Taiwan and South Korea.
It’s good to see how Sweden is doing.
Mexico (pop of 126.7MM of 38% of USA) hasn't yet hit 1,000 deaths on a size-adjusted basis; their Apr 7 total of 125 deaths equates to 325 on a US basis. Thus it doesn't make the cut yet. Same with Taiwan and their 5 deaths and 23MM people on Apr 7. Finally, South Korea's 193 deaths across 52.8MM people by Apr 7 just now breached the 1,000 adjusted threshold; they're not as bad off as the US. Thus, they haven't made the cut - which is a good thing for them.
They would all be good to include for comparison purposes for a number of reasons.
Norway too.
My son (22 years Special Forces and on his way to Afghanistan) told me 2 weeks ago that WHO (World Health Organization) was pressuring Google and Facebook to remove various You-Tube and other posts regarding the therapeutic uses of Vitamin C. I thought he was just being paranoid, but after 2 weeks exploring this subject I am now convinced he is correct. I would love to take part in any international effort to get the word out there that Vitamin C, high dose Vit. C, Vitamin D, zinc, and other cheap, commonly available substances are helpful in preventing and healing Covid and other dangerous illnesses or conditions.
Of course, given the $20,000,000 pay of top executives in the “health” industries, it is no wonder the powers-that-be are reluctant to pay any attention to other voices. After all politicians, and Disease Associations are dependent on big money from Big Pharma. Below are some links that could interest you. Of course, these are only “anecdotal” since they were not double blind studies.

It's too bad the one treatment that is known to work, which uses a malaria drug that has been out of patent for perhaps 45-50 years, has continued to be badmouthed and "fact checked" by the DNC's partisan media shills.
