Fauci: It's mind-boggling that China's wet markets are still operating during coronavirus pandemic
The Hill ^ | April 3 2020 | Joseph Guzman

Dr. Anthony Fauci, a key member of the White House coronavirus task force, said Friday China and other nations should be pressured to shut down so-called “wet markets” as the new novel coronavirus spreads throughout the world.

“[They] should shut down those things right away,” Fauci told 'Fox & Friends" Friday. “It just boggles my mind that when we have so many diseases that emanate out of that unusual human-animal interface that we don’t just shut it down.”

Scientists have yet to determine exactly how the novel coronavirus spreading around the globe began infecting people. But theories have swirled that the virus originated in bats, then infected another animal that passed it to humans at a market in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

The Chinese government has allowed some wet markets in the country to reopen as the coronavirus threat has reportedly decreased, but the one in Wuhan remains closed, according to Fox News. The Hunan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan was linked to an early large cluster of coronavirus cases, according to The Washington Post. China’s wet markets sell dead and living animals for human consumption and are known for lack of hygiene and government oversight.

Agree. Actually, this could be a clever strategy to call their bluff without actually accusing them until later when all the evidence was in.

Thats not fare Fauxci! You need to study the wet markets for 18 months to 2 years before formulating an opinion.

Shutdowns are apparently this guy’s tool to use on all nail like things.

Gents - don’t doubt for a second that wet markets are a major vector for animal to human transmission of viruses. This has been well known and documented for decades. The government of China has been warned repeatedly about wet markets and how they could easily cause a pandemic. SARS, H1N1, and the list goes on and on.

I don’t know if/where this came from for certain nor do you, but please don’t decide its a conspiracy of some kind so it’s okay for these wet markets to continue operating. As long as they have wet markets serving exotic cuisine (especially bats) it is not “if” they start a pandemic. It is when it will happen (again).

It is an absolute outrage that they have not closed every one of these markets. There are other 3rd world countries with markets like this. If nobody traveled to and from those countries I would not care, but they do and we are likely suffering greatly because of this practice..... Thousands of death and trillions of dollars that our children will have to repay possibly because a person wanted to eat “bat soup.”

Food safety is a big deal as we are now witnessing.

Probably because the Chinese know damned well that’s not where it started.

Amen. You beat me to it!

What a humanitarian!

Demanding the shut-down of a food supply center to at least 100s of thousands pf poor hungry third world people

BEFORE a second option is set up to meet their needs.

PS: I shop in a 3rd-world wet market from time-to-time and have survived for 20 years

Basically the chicoms have openly admitted that the virus didn’t start there, it started at a lab, our own leftie traitors helped them (Lieber) and they are giving the entire planet the middle finger.

Fauci’s a doddering old man, swamp creature political careerist in his government position with his fiefdom for 36 straight years (he’s 79) who can’t say a clear or definitive things if his life depended on it.

Wet markets are for savages.

Not everyone lives in a country where the best way to keep meat fresh is freezing/refrigeration.

In a a goodly fraction of the world to avoid spoiled meat it is kept fresh not in refrigerated rail cars, but 'on the hoof' and is slaughtered right before use.

As usual Fauci is ignorant. Chinese wet markets have a vast array of fresh vegetables and freshly butchered meats, poultry, fish. Stalls will have live chickens for example. You pick one out and they will butcher it and de-feather it for you in 15 minutes. The exotic animals they have for sale in SOME wet markets are maybe 2% of everything that is sold there. So the Chinese are not going be shutting them down.

If Fauci were precise he would demand that China shut down exotic animal sales at their wet markets. Bats, pangolin, monkey meat, civit cats and so on. Who in their right mind would want to eat pangolin? A kind of ant-eater?

ANSWER: Pangolin meat is Chinese version of dick-pills. Their Viagra. Some say the corona virus jumped from pangolin to humans

That’s a good point. I think it’s mind-bogglingly unlikely that the bat corona virus did not come from the lab 288 meters away where they were studying bat corona viruses, but it’s also true that diseases do also come from exotic animals in these markets.

If they cared they should make a list of what types of animals can be eaten. Then imprison everyone who sells or eats any other type of animal.

It would do wonders for their organ harvesting business.

Sounds like animal slaughtering in China is where it was in the US before Upton Sinclair’s expose journalism (”The Jungle”) and Teddy Roosevelt’s regulatory reformism led to the establishment of federal food and drug laws.
