... The U.S. government’s foremost infection disease expert says the United States could experience more than 100,000 deaths and millions of infections from the coronavirus pandemic. ... “I would say between 100,000 and 200,000 cases,” he said, correcting himself to say he meant deaths. “We’re going to have millions of cases.” But he added “I don’t want to be held to that” because the pandemic is “such a moving target.” ...

Precisely.

When one steps back, looks at the actual numbers, analyzes what we actually know and filters out the noise, this is not really that big of a deal.

Our response is killing us, though.

"There will be if Fauci, the medical community, and liberal governors continue to hold up what appears to be a successful Hydroxy treatment. They will be held accountable."

I don't think Fauci is holding it up. He's just insisting on controlled trials, even if they are widespread trials. Liberal governors might be.

gas_dr was expecting to treat with plaquemil (hydroxychorloquine). What's the status? Any issues prscribing it?

I’m near a high-outbreak area (Santa Clara county in the SF Bay Area) and my husband and I think we may have had it in mid-late Feb. We both had weeks of dry coughing and there was one odd night where I had fever and chills and I haven’t had a fever in 25 years or more. And diarrhea the day after the fever and chills.

And neither of our teens got it (or showed any symptoms anyway) which seems typical.

Too late he cannot get rid of this guy

Isn’t there somebody else he could bring in to balance him?

Also, isn’t Fauci partly to blame for us not being able to get testing ramped up? Wasn’t it his job to consult with and warn CDC? Why doesn’t Trump start hanging that stuff on Fauci?

Outside of maybe a day here or there at the beginning we’ve NEVER had “exponential” growth. Cases and deaths have always been proportional. But that doesn’t stop the tantruming Wu Flu addicts from spreading panic and economic devastation.

America will never be the same again. 17,000 died from H1N1 in 2009-2010. 26,500 dead so far this year from influenza. Until Wuhan Flu, we didn't care aboout those deaths. That is changed.

It will now be standard to practice social distancing to prevent ALL viral outbreaks from killing people, not just Wuhan Flu.

Prepare yourselves for this new reality, and invest appropriately as well. Tech and remote companies will profit handsomely. Travel and leisure companies will become seasonal money-makers only, as fear and public pressure will keep customers away during "virus time."

(that is, if we still have a free market and economy in the future)

I continue to believe that it is possible to have two positions here.

1- This isn’t the flu. It is a serious virus that can and is causing havoc with our hospital system. Serious and coordinated measures must be taken to combat it.

2- But at the same time I can be skeptical over any measure that takes away, not just curtails, but outright takes away, our liberty. It also advances socialism as some sort of miracle cure. Closing gun shops is now strong medicine, don’t cha know. I am skeptical when the media and democrats react violently against any suggestion there is an end game here. They appear to want to keep us locked down through the summer. Gee, that isn’t suspicious, is it?

Now they want to say Trump is for killing old people, euthanizing them as a matter of fact. So sayeth the people who are for assisted suicide and abortion AFTER birth.

Lwt those most susceptible to the flu...this one and most of the others (65 and over with ongoing health issues), simply confine themselves while others who barely become symptomatic go about there business.

If you are so afraid then YOU stay the hell home and stop advocating for the financial destruction of a 100 million or more of us simply because you believe the bullshit the lying media throws at you.

Agree 100%.
When put in the proper context, Fauci’s numbers should not strike fear. However the media and Libs are controlling the political narrative and making this a choice between the saving the economy or the elderly. Unfortunately many are falling for that false narrative.

History will not be kind to our response thus far. Folks will look back to the courage of the WW2 generation and how they sacrificed for the good of future generations.
Then they will compare it to ours, who when confronted by crisis, chose to hide in place while financing it on the backs of our children and grandchildren.

The President needs to make clear, that in two weeks we need to start re-opening the country for the sake of future generations of Americans. We cannot afford another stimulus package on the backs of our children and grandchildren.

Not worth any price, but I hardly think 100,000,000 lives will be financially ruined. That’s fearmongering.

I see reports about people dying from the flu several times every year. Can’t drive down the road without reminders to get a flu shot. We just see it so often, we become insensitive to it.

I care about 80 year olds. I hope to be one someday.

“A cocktail of zinc sulfate, HCQ, and azithromycin has been shown to be an effective early treatment of the virus. The HCQ acts as a doorway for the zinc to enter the cell where the virus is and kill the virus. The azithromycin is to prevent a secondary bacterial infection.”

And many are reporting successes with this treatment from many countries and yet Fauci continues to down play even trying this treatment without long term trials. I don’t trust him or his political association or his old man brain and thinking. He is a worm in the wood.

He’s also a Carter, Reagan, HW Bush, Clinton, GW Bush and Trump “official” and the most accomplished and highly regarded infectious diseases/immunologist in the past 50 years.

He’s a self centered TV hound who doesn’t have the common sense to hand the reins over to a new generation and retire at 79. Fauci is a prime example of the failings of his generation.
