The bill is overwhelmingly going to pass. This is an unnecessary stunt.

How does a roll call vote delay it and by how much?

Trump needs to go nuclear on Massie and primary him out. Replace him with someone who does not exploit a crisis to make a vanity point.

If it just means everyone in Congress has to vote in person on a bill that will pass by a wide margin anyway, then I'm fine with it.

If police officers, EMTs, hospital workers and truck drivers are expected to do their jobs during this "crisis," then every member of Congress should get their asses to the Capitol and do their damn jobs.

It was a Trillion dollar bill. Then it became the 1.6 trillion. Nancy wanted 2.5 trillion. Nancy “backed down” and now it’s 2.2 and loaded with billions for Democrat projects to foster illegal voting, dump boatloads of money on Africa, billions for refugee resettlement with no time limit.

Yeah, they need to vote on Nancy’s dream bill. Good for him.

Why would a roll call vote stop the vote for the Corona Virus Bill?

It seems to me that some members of Congress are unsure of their positions on the issue and don’t want the vote recorded.

It’s a stunt, probably a dumb one, but maybe also an important one. If the precedent is set that two trillion dollars can be negotiated on behind closed doors, nine hundred pages of legislative text written and voted upon without being read and passed into law without even allowing a token voice of dissent to be recorded in the congressional record, what’s the point of a legislature?

Is quorum unnecessary?

I agree that roll call is not necessary.

$2.2 Trillion dollars I want a vote of record.

DesertRhino: “ 2.2 and loaded with billions for Democrat projects to foster illegal voting, dump boatloads of money on Africa, billions for refugee resettlement with no time limit.”

The checks going out are Chump Change compare to the billions being wasted.

This is not a bail out bill, this is a destroy America’s future bill

I have no problem with a roll call vote. I strongly prefer it, actually.

what’s the big deal?

Massie’s statement reads in full:

I swore an oath to uphold the constitution, and I take that oath seriously. In a few moments I will request a vote on the CARES Act which means members of Congress will vote on it by pushing “yes” or “no” or “present.”

The Constitution requires that a quorum of members be present to conduct business in the House. Right now, millions of essential, working-class Americans are still required to go to work during this pandemic such as manufacturing line workers, healthcare professionals, pilots, grocery clerks, cooks/chefs, delivery drivers, auto mechanics, and janitors (to name just a few). Is it too much to ask that the House do its job, just like the Senate did?

I am not delaying the bill like Nancy Pelosi did last week. The bill that was worked on in the Senate late last week was much better before Speaker Pelosi showed up to destroy it and add days and days to the process.

This bill should have been voted on much sooner in both the Senate and House and it shouldn’t be stuffed full of Nancy Pelosi’s pork – including $25 million for the Kennedy Center, grants for the National Endowment for the Humanities and Arts, and millions more other measures that have no direct relation to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

That $25 million, for example, should go directly to purchasing test kits. The number one priority of this bill should have been to expand testing availability and creation of tests so that every American, not just the wealthy and privileged, have access to testing. We have shut down the world’s economy without adequate data. Everyone, even those with no symptoms, needs immediate access to a test. This bill creates even more secrecy around a Federal Reserve that still refuses to be audited. It allows the Federal Reserve to make decisions about who gets what, how much money we’ll print. With no transparency.

If getting us into $6 trillion more debt doesn’t matter, then why are we not getting $350 trillion more in debt so that we can give a check of $1 million to every person in the country?

This stimulus should go straight to the people rather than being funneled through banks and corporations like this bill is doing. 2 trillion divided by 150 million workers is about $13,333.00 per person. That’s much more than the $1,200 per person check authorized by this bill.

From the Guardian

I wish more elected officials stood their ground and called this bill out for what it is....$hit!

The way I see it, the American people are the cops. Nancy and Mitch are running a bookie shop. The Bookie shop is about to make a 130,000 profit on some kinda deal. They are paying the cop 12,000 to look the other way.

They found our price. And some people hate Serpico for asking a question.

If I ever heard of this guy before I might be inclined to listen.

If he was Jim Jordan or Louie Gohmert, I might care, because they have been on the front lines. This guy’s just a douche from nowhere trying to get his bonafides cheaply.

drawing calls from the White House to throw him out of the Republican Party.

Can't agree with President Trump on this. There is a lot of garbage in this bill (and plenty of good stuff too of course), and the bill will pass overwhelmingly any ways. The guy wants to put his objections to the bill on record. So why make a fuss oer this?

Once the bill passes (overwhelmingly) and the president signs it into law, no one will care about Pelosi, McConnell, Massie or any other member of Congress. As President of the United States, you sign it, you own it.
