The Quinism Foundation Warns of Dangers from Use of Antimalarial Quinolines Against COVID-19

Use of Chloroquine, Hydroxychloroquine, Mefloquine, Quinine, and Related Quinoline Drugs Risks Sudden and Lasting Neuropsychiatric Effects from Idiosyncratic Neurotoxicity

The Quinism Foundation has warned of a risk of sudden and lasting neuropsychiatric effects from the use of antimalarial quinolines against COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, and has urged policy makers, physicians, and members of the public to be alert to such effects.

“The same endosomotropic properties that likely underlie the effectiveness of quinoline antimalarial drugs such as chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine against the virus may also underlie their dangers, ” said Dr. Remington Nevin, MD, MPH, DrPH, a Johns-Hopkins trained psychiatric epidemiologist and drug safety expert and former U.S.

Army public health physician, who now serves as Executive Director of The Quinism Foundation. “These are not safe drugs.”“In susceptible individuals, these drugs act as idiosyncratic neurotoxicants, potentially causing irreversible brain and brainstem dysfunction, even when used at relatively low doses,” said Dr. Nevin.

“This drug-induced dysfunction causes a disease of the brain and brainstem called quinoline encephalopathy, or quinism, which can be marked acutely by psychosis, confusion, and risk of suicide, and by lasting psychiatric and neurological" symptoms.

“Symptoms of chronic quinoline encephalopathy include tinnitus, dizziness, vertigo, paresthesias, visual disturbances, nightmares, insomnia, anxiety, agoraphobia, paranoia, cognitive dysfunction, depression, personality change, and suicidal thoughts, among others, ” said Dr. Nevin.

“Particularly among military veterans, in whom these drugs have been widely used for decades as prophylactic antimalarials, these symptoms can mimic and be mistaken for those of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.”

Oh please. Last year for a while I drank tonic water every night before bed to prevent leg cramps I was having at the time and some quinine pills if I woke up in the middle of the night with them. Great stuff—very effective for leg cramps anyway.

As the Quinism Foundation was founded after Trump took office, what is the probability that is CIA funded?

According to the Business Insider

“The Quinism Foundation, founded in January 2018, in White River Junction, Vermont, promotes and supports education and research on quinism, the family of medical disorders caused by exposure to quinoline drugs, including mefloquine, tafenoquine, and chloroquine.”

Well, it certainly doesn’t say it wasn’t founded by the CIA and isn’t out to Get Trump!

“Do you need to take this drug for 5 years to cure the Cornovirus?”

More like five days to control it, at least.

After reading several articles on Google concerning the activities of the foundation, my impression is that it’s basically a front that provides lawyers with “expert opinion” that favors the lawyers position in cases where a plaintiff is suing a drug company or the government for making or prescribing quinolones by claiming they have caused aberrant neuro function mimicking PTSD... causing the plaintiff to have nightmares and psychotic episodes which caused the plaintiff to demonstrate violent behavior.

I have read that standard protocol for treating covid-19 is 60mg of hydroxychloroquine per day for 10 days.

Incidentally, a bottle of 60-200 mg tablets from Walmart cost $19.80... so you basically get a complete treatment regimen (600mg each) for two patients for under $20.

I bought quinine from natural sources: bark. Cost a similar amount. A standard dose of quinine for malaria would be about 320 mg.

commonly used drugs can have bad effects...even great antibiotics like Levaquin..usually the first IV antibiotic ordered when you come in with a respiratory infection...can have bad side effects...but you have to weigh the good vs the bad...

Never heard of this weird sounding foundation or whatever it is. So if it is so dangerous why hasn’t it been pulled of the market? Somethings fishy.

Yeah, it's coming from Bernie Sanders state in White River Junction, which is DIRECTLY across the river from Dartmouth College.

Color me suspicious.

The Quinism Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization established to support education and research on chronic quinoline encephalopathy and other medical conditions caused by poisoning, or intoxication, by mefloquine, tafenoquine, chloroquine, and related quinoline drugs. The Quinism Foundation is proud to join the VA’s National Center for PTSD in making the beautiful village of White River Junction, Vermont its home.

I have read that Chloroquine has a cumulative effect. In other words, long term usage is the real problem. The upper limit is cumulative dosages amounting to 1000 grams. As I understand the regimen for Covid 19, it involves a dosage of 500 mg. for 10 days, or a cumulative total of 5 grams. I don’t think that would cause anyone a problem.

Approx 3.5 liters of Tonic water (80mg/liter) would contain the same amount of Quinine in one pharmaceutical grade tablet ~(300 mg).
