Trump's State of the Union was an 80-minute victory lap

WASHINGTON - On the eve of his likely acquittal on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, an emboldened President Donald Trump delivered a defiant State of the Union speech that was light on olive branches, heavy on partisan broadsides.

Standing before the very body that has been debating his removal from office, and in the same chamber where he was impeached, Trump delivered a prime-time address strikingly similar to the campaign speeches he uses to rouse his base, with references to God, guns and the evils of socialism.

While the word "impeachment" wasn't in the president's remarks, the tensions were palpable from the start — Republicans chanted "four more years" as Trump entered the chamber and pointedly avoided shaking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's hand — to the end, when Pelosi, D-Calif., still seated behind him, ripped up a copy of his speech.

In the nearly 80-minute address, which contained many elements of his campaign rally stump speech, Trump rattled off one metric after another of economic gains under his administration, which he described as a "blue-collar boom." And he used the moment not only to tout his accomplishments, but also to belittle his adversaries.

"If we had not reversed the failed economic policies of the previous administration, the world would not now be witnessing this great economic success," Trump said to cheers from Republicans and boos from Democrats.

Trump's administration has continued an economic recovery that began under the administration of President Barack Obama, which inherited an economy in free fall.

They just can't resist. Trump didn't do it. He "inherited" it from Obama.

Pretty much. Since NBC has hidden Trump achievements in its reporting it should not be surprised.

CSPAN-2 interviewed Congressmen and Senators immediately after the speech. The very first guy they interviewed, Tom Carper, senior Senator from Delaware, said “It is Obama’s recovery.” I couldn’t believe my ears.

Even combined, the bastard Dems sitting on their hands, Pelosi tearing up the speech, then Carper saying that, was not enough to dampen my wild enthusiasm for America’s Great Recovery.

“”””””””’ recovery that began under the administration of President Barack Obama, which inherited an economy in free fall.””””””””””””””””

In 2006 the economy was in decent shape. That year the democrats won control of the House and Senate. Biden, Clinton, hussein, pelosi, etc were in charge.

They said there would be big changes.

In 2008 the economy took a big downturn.

They take no blame for that.

I believe one thing that Trump has learned (That not even President Reagan...or the Bush’s learned) is that it is pointless to make nice with the Democrats. They will stab a Republican President in the back and celebrate their backstabbing victory. They’re just plain evil.

You can’t take the lap unless there’s much victory.

I keep hearing that same old lie.

As retired old geezers, living on SS and our IRAs, DW & I can tell you right now that our standard of living has been a whole lot better under President Trump than under Obama. And, our kids will someday inherit of legacy of more than socialism, lies, and racial strife.

The NYT says Trump was ‘Courting Black Voters’.
I’d like to remind the Former “paper of Record” that February is Black History Month. (Oh, yeah, NYT, Sit and spin)

light on olive branches, heavy on partisan broadsides.

Because we all know he should be "reaching across the aisle" to those who've been trying to assassinate him (figuratively) for the past 3-1/2 years. IDIOT.

They just can't resist. Trump didn't do it. He "inherited" it from Obama.

If he's just inheriting Obama's booming economy, then why do the leftists want to reverse everything? Trump is simply continuing Obama's successful economic policies, right?
