MIAMI - The forecast for the Super Bowl in Miami is grim.
Clear skies and temperature in the 60s are expected when the game kicks off, so weather wont be a problem.
But climate change likely will be, sooner or later. The sea and temperature are rising, posing a threat to South Floridians way of life, including their customary spot in the NFLs Super Bowl rotation.
The game will be played Sunday in Miami for the 11th time, the most of any city. Given the changing climate, how much longer will the region be a place where the NFL wants to bring its big party?
In 10 years maybe well still be functioning normally, said Harold Wanless, a leading expert on sea level rise in South Florida. Twenty years? I think that could be a problem.
The Miami Dolphins stadium, the site of the Super Bowl this year for the sixth time, stands 10 feet above sea level. That will change, although projections vary widely.
Miami first hosted a Super Bowl 52 years ago. What will Miami be doing 52 years from now?
We just dont know how fast the water is going to rise, said South Miami Mayor Philip Stoddard, who has long been sounding the alarm about climate change.
The Miami Super Bowl Host Committee, however, has yet to address the challenges a changing climate will present when the group tries to bring future games to South Florida.
Weve had no discussion of that, committee chairman Rodney Barreto said. It has not been on our radar at this point.
But for the Super Bowl in Miami, the clock is running, and no one knows how much time is left.

Then have it in Winnipeg.
There is absolutely no way in Hell, even according to the most extreme, dire forecasts made by any serious scientist, that sea levels will rise 20 feet in the next 20 years.
And Miami plays at an altitude 20 feet higher than the NYC location proposed by Global Warming Alarmist Jeff Bezos for his Amazon headquarters.
I agree, but uphill is going to be tough in South Florida. I believe the highest spot is Hobe Mountain, which is all of 86’ above sea level.
I live in Spain, 600 meters walking and 90 meters above sea level from the Mediterranean. We have been waiting patiently for our house to become seafront property but it doesn’t look one inch closer after 4 years.
As a former resident of Lakeland, I vouch that there is land outside of Florida.
If our world is on its last legs, a football game is probably the least of our concerns.
Dear Mr. Wine....This sounds like something an eighth grader would write. Geeeez
And the Lions still will have no Super Bowl titles.
They’ll say, and do, ANYTHING for those trillions of dollars in fees, taxes, regulations, etc. etc. The communists can never get enough.
Hahahahhahaha. The Asspress is becoming The Onion.
Hahahahhahaha. The Asspress is becoming The Onion.
So when can I expect to be able to buy Miami beach front property for 10 cents on the dollar?
self respecting people don’t write such drivel- most people don’t like looking stupid in print- but climate alarmists are a special breed- they enjoy looking stupid
And banks should be denying mortgages to home purchases if the threat of rising water is real.
oh nooooooo1 - you mean no more kneeling anti-Aemricans showing the world what morons they are? And no more prancing mentally ill men dressed as women during half time
Golly gee willickers- whatever will we do?
How many millions of dollars did they do on the stadium to renovate it in order to get Superbowl?
If the Climate FRAUD continues, NFL teams won't be able to travel.....
