Iran promised to seek revenge for a U.S. airstrike near Baghdad's airport that killed the mastermind of its interventions across the Middle East, and the U.S. said Friday it was sending thousands more troops to the region as tensions soared in the wake of the targeted killing.

The death of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's elite Quds Force, marks a major escalation in the standoff between Washington and Iran, which has careened from one crisis to another since President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and imposed crippling sanctions.

Another airstrike almost exactly 24 hours after the one that killed Soleimani hit two cars carrying Iran-backed militia north of Baghdad, killing five people, an Iraqi official said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to reporters. The Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces confirmed the strike, saying it targeted one of its medical convoys near the stadium in Taji, north of Baghdad. The group denied any of its top leaders were killed.

I dunno, the second car in the convoy was not targeted directly. But I imagine following a car that sucks in 4 hellfire missiles would be like chasing a 3000 pound grenade.

Perhaps the “Medical convoy” was transporting some high value injured from the second car back to Iatoldya land?

Medical Convoys they say. You know it was NOT a Medical Convoy when they claim it was a Medical Convoy.

Do they even run actual medical convoys? PMF is NOT Iraqi military, they're a bunch (40+) of random militia groups that have gotten somewhat state approval. They're probably closer to civilian security groups like Blackwater then our National Guard. I doubt most of them have sufficient training or organization to have much in the way of logistics and rump rangers. For them a medical convoy is probably like a Hilux guntruck driving a wounded guy to the hospital.
